HUNTINGTON, WV (WOWK) - The City of Huntington is looking at ways to revitalize its riverfront park areas. The City Council met for a special meeting with Stantec, a company that has been looking at ways to develop new plans for the areas around Harris Riverfront Park and the Guyandotte neighborhood's riverfront park. According to Stantec and Mayor Steve Williams, one goal is to make the areas more visually attractive to the communities. CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) - An excessive heat watch is in effect throughout our region, and temperatures could hit triple digits before the heat wave is over. So when was the last time West Virginia saw a triple-digit temperature? According to the National Weather Service, the last time both Huntington and Charleston saw a triple-digit temperature day was more than a decade ago on July 8, 2012. CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) - They may be small, but these yachts are mighty, and part of an event in Charleston that helped some businesses beat the heat. The ninth annual Kiwanis Corporate Regatta took place Monday at the Kanawha County Public Library's main branch in downtown Charleston. Companies can buy the "yachts" and then the skipper sets sail with the help of a super-soaker. Monday's event raised more than $13,000 - the most they've ever raised. CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) -- Some advocates for homeschooling are speaking out after the death of 14-year-old Kyneddi Miller. They say the rules weren't followed, and homeschooling should not be blamed. There are safeguards in place, but somehow, they fell through the cracks. 14-year-old Kyneddi Miller was found dead in an emaciated state in her Boone County home in April.
