MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Laurel College of Technology kicked off its annual week of service this week with two local organizations set to receive monetary donations. During this week the college will donate to the WVU Children’s Hospital and Animal Friends of North Central West Virginia. JACKSON'S MILL W.Va. (WBOY) — Wednesday was the fifth day of this year's Mountaineer Boys State, which has been put on every year at Jackson’s Mill by the American Legion since 1936. Boys State Director Robbie Robinson said that at Boys State, “We make the 51st state.” This means that for one week, young men who are rising seniors from throughout West Virginia simulate their own government and society, taking up careers, writing laws and living together. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — A more than 250-year-old house in Morgantown has been awarded $15,000 for restoration by the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia. Kerns Fort may look like a normal two-story family house, but the structure actually has a deep history and is even on the National Register of Historic Places. The house was built in 1772 and housed militia during the Revolutionary War. WESTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — On June 6, 2024—the 80th anniversary of D-Day, World War II veteran and Fairmont native Asa Davison passed away, just months after he celebrated his 100th birthday in Monongah. "He's our guy here at the museum," Mountaineer Military Museum Director Barb McVaney said. "Just a joy, and we loved him dearly." Davison enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 and served until 1946 when he was honorably discharged. BECKLEY, W.Va. (WVNS) — A woman was arrested on Tuesday, June 11 in relation to the death of twin babies that happened in southern West Virginia back in February. Thirty-year-old Olivia Moore was arrested on Tuesday, June 11 on two counts of child neglect causing death. The girls, Ava and Amina Johnson, were two years old.
