KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Despite seeing a slight decrease in the number of lives lost to drugs, more than 500 people died from suspected overdoses in 2023. As drug overdose deaths continue to plague much of East Tennessee, organizations are working to address concerns over addiction and increased substance tolerance. Drug related deaths from 2022-2023 went down five percent, but the number of deaths is still high with 519 suspected overdoses last year.
