KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Despite seeing a slight decrease in the number of lives lost to drugs, more than 500 people died from suspected overdoses in 2023. As drug overdose deaths continue to plague much of East Tennessee, organizations are working to address concerns over addiction and increased substance tolerance. Drug related deaths from 2022-2023 went down five percent, but the number of deaths is still high with 519 suspected overdoses last year. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Shot Club Social, a golf and entertainment complex, is one step closer to coming to Knoxville after land purchased for the complex was approved to be rezoned on Thursday. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Knox County Schools released the third and fourth grade English Learning Arts TCAP report on how many students qualified to move on to the next grade without intervention. This year, more than a quarter of third graders did not. The Supreme Court on Thursday tossed a lower court's ruling ordering Starbucks to reinstate seven Memphis-based employees terminated amid a unionization drive. The decision makes it more difficult to immediately block alleged unfair labor practices as they are litigated in a sometimes years-long administrative process. (WATE) — A motorcyclist driving on I-40 was killed after it was struck by a truck driving the wrong way on I-40 in Cumberland County, according to a report from Tennessee Highway Patrol.
