Juneteenth commemorates the day, June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned that they were free. This was around two months after Confederate general Robert E. Lee surrendered and the Civil War ended. It was also two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. As soon as 1866, local festivities were organized to celebrate and remember the day, but it wouldn't become a federal holiday until 2021. Now, across the country, celebrations take place! Driving on down to Manchester for an exciting Bonnaroo adventure? TDOT wants to ensure you that they're prepared for the traffic. The main focus is to keep traffic moving on I-24. Here's what they're doing to accomplish that. Help trucks will be on-site patrolling the interstate and state routes. TDOT maintenance units will be posted throughout the festival region, and maintenance personnel will be on call all weekend. The Nashville Symphony has announced dates and programs for their summer community concert tradition. From June 5 through 9, the Orchestra will perform free concerts in local parks and communities in Davidson, Macon, Montgomery, and Wilson counties.
