A familiar face is returning to the Newton School Board. Former Board President Cody Muhs was unanimously selected to fill a vacant board seat last(Monday) night. Muhs and Hilary Foster Foster told board members about their interest in filling Liz Hammerly’s seat. And it was Muhs’ past board experience that led to his selection.
That’s School Board member Travis Padget. Board member Ray Whipple agreed.

A Newton City Council seat will become vacant in about a month. Last(Monday)night…4th Ward Council member Vicki Wade announced an upcoming move to a different part of the City.
Wade represents the southwest quadrant of the City. She was elected in 2021, and her term is to expire at the end of next year. She says she’s thoroughly enjoyed her time as a City representative.
Mayor Evelyn George says once Wade moves, which is planned for mid-June, the Council will look to appoint her successor….instead of holding a special election.
