In Austria, website owners and operators are currently a target of a wave of lawsuits. The reason is a possible violation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), if you are using Google Fonts – or rather if you use Google Fonts “incorrect”. This leads back to a court ruling in Munich (LG München I, Endurteil v. 20.01.2022 – 3 O 17493/20), which, however, has no validity in Austria according to the current status. Lawsuits due to Google Fonts? In July, there were the first reports of a lawsuit wave in Austria due to Google Fonts. Many companies received letters, where they were asked ..read more

Well – honestly, it was only a matter of time before I did something where I could talk. I much prefer talking than writing. And that is the reason why I present my cloud & security podcast to you. But back to the beginning. I thought it might be a good idea to have a blog in English and a podcast about the same topic, but for the German speaking community. Unfortunately there are only very few German-language podcasts dealing with these topics. What do you think about that? And here it is: EPISIODE 001: Cloud & Security with Patrick (German only) In this first episode I will talk ab ..read more

As a part-time lecturer, I frequently deal with students and colleagues who need laboratory environments prepared for teaching. It should cost little, be available at the push of a button and be clearly separated from the internal IT. It was more or less by chance that I became aware of an Azure product that serves exactly this purpose: Azure Lab Services Introduction Let’s start with a short introduction. The difference is that Lab Services are fully managed classroom labs; DevTest Labs are low-cost Azure resources for specifi ..read more

In June, Microsoft announced the public preview of Azure Bastion. This new introduced service lets you manage your Azure Resources through SSH and RDP directly via your Browser on a very high security level. What is a Bastion Host? It is often used to access and manage devices in a separate security zone. The access to this special zone is only provided via this Jump Host/Bastion Host. You control the complete permissions on this server. Reverse Proxies are ..read more

Cloud Computing, from a global point of view, is already here. In fact, it’s everywhere. I posted this article originally on my old blog in 2016. As you can see, moving to the cloud is mandatory in 2019. Successful companies who put their trust in Cloud Computing gain a competitive edge over companies who cling to traditional technologies. Those afraid of change no longer need to question the legality of moving services to the cloud or worry about privacy concerns. The only question you need to ask: “When are we moving our services to the cloud?” Usually, European companies start usin ..read more

A few weeks ago Microsoft introduced a major update for the Azure PowerShell: The Azure PowerShel Az module. This update brings the commandlets closer to the Azure CLI (az vs. Az). Maybe you’re asking yourself the question: What happens to the existing PowerShell scripts now? Introduction to Az module The Azure PowerShell Az module was released in December 2018. It uses the .NET Standard Library and could run on PowerShell 5.x and 6.x.  Thus the module also runs on Linux and MacOS. For me, one of the most interesting new features has been the authentication. An interactive browser log ..read more
