Oh, dear mountains, Do you remember me? I am sure you don’t. You see so many faces, some round, some oval, some wrinkled around the cheekbone. Mine is an ordinary one, little round, lifted cheeks, thin lips. Are you able to recall me now? I miss you so much in these days of isolation. In these moments of uncertainty. I wish I could see you from my balcony every time I am overwhelmed. You teach me how to stay calm despite the upheavals. You have endured so much in geographical deformation. Nobody will be able to tell the pain you have gone through. All they see is your beauty, your crests, and ..read more

I do not regularly read sci-fi but the title of the book caught my attention and “tail”? Tale is one of my favorite words in English and when I saw a spin-off, I was interested. A tail of love in Machester is written by Asimava Roy Choudhary and is available on Amazon for you to read. It is a short to medium read and can be finished in 4-5 hours on Kindle. I received the copy of the book and started leafing. 19th May 2021. Today is the 87th birthday of Ruskin Bond. I was reminded of this by the delivery of his latest book “All-time favorites for children” in my kindle inbox. I had pre-ordered the book a week ago. Even after reading so many books by him, I am excited for new works, new characters, and a new universe. He teletransports me to a world as no other writer does. I keep searching for mountains in him and him in mountains. I have found a happy place in him, gradually. I wish him a Happy Birthday and cheers to many more books he will write. “How to be a writer” by Ruskin Bond This post is a ..read more

With all good intentions, The Sickle by Anita Agnihotri fails to impress
The Minireads

I have a deep interest in India’s social dynamics being a sociology student. The books unveiling the failure of governance and social fabric are my top preference while choosing a book. I came across “The Sickle” by Anita Agnihotri recently while browsing a book store. Drought, poverty, patriarchy with a tinge of feminism made me buy this book instantly. The cover page says that the condition of Marathwada in Maharashtra has been woven in the form of fiction. The idea created a sense of urgency in me to read it before any other book. I had very high expectations from the book, especially after ..read more

I remember my history teacher asking us in his first class: “Why do we study history?” We were not interested. Neither in the question nor the answer and absolutely not interested in history. After all, we were 10-year-olds, free souls! But what he said kind of stayed with me. He told us that we study history to learn from our mistakes and never do them again. Even since I have finished “The Last Queen” by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, I cannot stop thinking about the lessons that I can draw from the book and the mistakes that I can totally avoid in future. The book is the story of “The Last Que ..read more
