The Yankees had a 4-1 lead going into the ninth inning, and a combination of Holmes and shaky defense lost the game for the Yankees, who went down relatively quietly in the ninth inning. The New York Yankees swept the Minnesota Twins, and Clarke Schmidt had his best start as a Yankee, throwing eight shutout innings with eight strikeouts. The offense scored five, and Yankees pitching shut down the Twins offense for 26 out of 27 innings in the series. After Ryan Jeffers's lead-off home run in the bottom of the first on Tuesday, the Yankees’ pitching didn’t allow a run.
