The barista said, “I saw the guy’s helmet rolling away. He was on the floor and wasn’t moving. “I didn’t know what to make of it. People in cars got out and just rushed to help him. One man on a quest to protect a ‘400-year-old veteran oak tree’ is butting heads with farmers and district councillors because of their ‘inadequate approach’. The Uffington resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, has been living in the Farrington village all his life, so it is his connection with local biodiversity that prompted him to fight for the tree’s protection. His personal campaign follows a planning application for the nearby Oxleaze Farm that sits about a mile away from Uffington. Owners of the land, where the veteran tree grows, want to change the use of the agricultural build ..read more

I was born and raised in Tampere, Finland. My immediate family consists of my wife Katja and our 12-year-old son Luca. When I grew up, I was fortunate as I got to travel extensively due to my father’s international job assignments at Pöyry. My mother and I joined him twice in the early 80s for extended stays abroad: first in Yemen on the coast of the Red Sea and then Bai Bang in Northern Vietnam. During this time, I experienced different cultures and was exposed to the differences between developed and developing countries. This poses a substantial health and safety threat, particularly alongside streets, public rights of way and woodland regions utilized by the general public for recreation pursuits and soldiers for coaching. Infection may result in the departure of young trees within two to three decades and of adult trees over three to five decades. Around 14,000 trees around 250 locations are affected by the disorder on the Salisbury Plain Training A ..read more
