In this fast and evolving world we live in, it’s so difficult to keep up with what actually works and what is just an endless pit for your bank account. Let’s be honest we all want to feel and look our best, some want it more than others for what ever the reason, without going too deep. For Me personally the thought of ageing, I’m not gonna lie does not thrill me, seeing those extra laugher lines get deeper. I think the key to any procedures is knowing when too stop! I first started to look at myself in my early 40’s, everyone around me seemed to be having different procedures, from botox to f ..read more

For those who know me I’m a woman who loves weights and little cardio. Running has never been my thing, probably because I find it difficult and it makes me feel like I’m going to die lol!! We all stick to things that we find a little easier, change is harder than sticking to what we know. I’ve set myself a little challenge. I’m going to push myself out of that comfort zone and up my cardio game. This does not mean I’m going to run miles or run marathons, I just want to improve my cardio level. I think for some this is where they go wrong. When trying something new always take small steps, tho ..read more

Quite often I hear from people who go to the gym or workout at home say they are not getting the benefits from their workout. Nine times out of ten when I view a workout programme, even with YouTube Fitness Videos, the main problem is the proper execution of specific exercises Exercises are to be controlled and executed properly. I always suggest when starting your fitness journey, start with a true evaluation of the areas of your body you want to work on. Depending on your budget try and use a personal trainer for a few sessions, they will be able to correct or show you specific exercises tha ..read more

Getting Ready for the Christmas Feast!!
the Jackie Life

Well, what a year we all have had! One thing I can control is my Christmas Day feast. I am very fortunate to have come from a large family. While growing up, Christmas was a three day celebration from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day. Between my Mum and Sisters, we all chipped in with the preparation and cooking of the food and had around twenty at the table. Now with my own family and wanting to take on the tradition of what I had growing up, I found that I was also catering for up to around twenty happy faces. The first few years were ok but when my young children wanted my full attention, I foun ..read more

In-between Seasons
the Jackie Life

I quite often struggle this time of year. With Summer season coming to an end and Autumn just around the corner, I personally need a slow transition from my legs being out enjoying the sun to putting them away for winter. I found this little number in H & M, a flowy dress which is perfect for the changing climate, yet still allowing my legs to be free! Together with some ankle boots and of course the perfect handbag to complete the outfit. Generally we all seem to be drawn in by wearing dark colours in the Winter months. Why not wear white & creams during the Winter? Don’t be afraid to ..read more

Men Go Through Tough Times Too!

I was shocked to learn that suicide is the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK! Not only was I shocked by this statistic I feel that most men are conditioned to believe that talking about their emotions and mental state is considered a sign of weakness. How many times have you heard the term “man up”? I heard it quite often growing up and looking back now I think that term had led to a lot of men shutting down and not talking about how they felt. For the majority of women, from a very young age, we were taught that it was ok to express and talk about our feelings and emo ..read more

Well guys it’s been confirmed, yes I’m going through my menopause!!  I had it confirmed by my gynaecologist not that I really needed it confirming. I was displaying the odd sign but when you have it in black and white you know you’re not going crazy.  I have to say it felt really strange getting that phone call to say, you can no longer create life…. Was I relieved or was I gutted! I had mixed emotions, obviously I didn’t want more children but to be told you can no longer have children was really strange, but I soon got over that!! It seemed I had almost every bloody sympt ..read more

There are no quick fixes

Shortcuts are great, who doesn’t want a quick fix.  Have you ever skipped ironing because the wrinkles usually fall out in a couple of hours, or you found a short cut travelling to work. Some steps can be shortened  without too much comprise on results, if only it was that easy!!!  Unfortunately for fitness this is something that cannot be rushed. If you want long term results, fitness has to become part of your lifestyle otherwise you will be back to where you started. The same goes for healthy eating, there are no miracle diets out there, who wants to be on ..read more

the Jackie Life
by Jackie

In a recent article in the Independent and written by Alice Hughes, women over 50 are having the time of their lives and more confident than those in their 20s. Below are some of the highlights I can relate to. Women aged 50-65 are happier with their age, relationship and confidence than women in their 20s, a study has found. In comparison, just 44 per cent of younger women are comfortable with their love life while only one in 10 are satisfied with their age and self-confidence.Half of women over 50 are content with their current relationship status while a quarter are “happy” with their a ..read more
