Every Microsoft 365 and digital workplace team wants to drive better adoption and usage of tools across the digital workplace, encouraging users to get the very best out of the applications they have access to. But providing guidance on which tool to use when and for what scenario has it challenges, particularly in the areas of communication and collaboration. Create an enterprise front door for employees
Step Two » Digital workplace

The landscape of enterprise tools and systems isn’t getting simpler over time. Quite the opposite: whole new platforms are being put in place which offer substantial increases in capability, but often alongside other tools (instead of replacing them). In many respects, this is good news, as employees have often been lumped with ‘second-best’ tools that lag far behind consumer offerings. What we know, however, is that employees won’t necessarily understand the differences and usage of these systems, and they don’t want to spend the time to find out. Fair enough! Our goal must be to provide simp ..read more

In the world of agile, lean and startups there’s great love for what’s called a “canvas”. This is a fancy new name for what might previously have been called a “plan on a page”. The power of these artefacts is that they help clarify and sharpen thinking. They also force proposed approaches to be simplified to just a single page, making it easy for others to digest and understand them quickly. Some common examples include: Business Model Canvas Lean Startup Canvas Mission Model Canvas (for non-profits) In the world of intranets and digital workplaces, the use of these types of business model c ..read more

Step Two » Digital workplace

The concept of an “intranet” has been around for more than 20 years, with varying levels of sophistication. The term “digital workplace” was coined close on ten years ago, although it has only seen traction in recent years. The new kid to the block is “digital employee experience”, providing a holistic and strategic view. These terms are all now in common use, although definitions vary. There also a lot of confusion: is the latest intranet now a digital workplace? Or is Office 365 the new digital workplace? Can we “deliver” a new digital employee experience? While Step Two may be leading the c ..read more

Create a universal inbox as part of a great digital employee experience
Step Two » Digital workplace

One of the most frustrating aspects of a poor digital employee experience (#DEX) for managers and employees is receiving a multitude of auto-generated notification emails from a plethora of different systems. Some of these automated emails require actions (such as the approval of annual leave, for example), while others are for information only. Some require immediate action, but others might only require action in a few days time.  Each notification may also be in a different format. Not only does this make already overfull inboxes even more full, but it is also highly inefficient. Emails req ..read more
