The defending national champions, Denver Hockey, announced their 2024-25 schedule Wednesday. Denver opens the season with a trip to David Carle’s home state of Alaska on October 5th & 6th to face the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves. The Pioneers then return to home ice against Northeastern two weeks later.  The non-conference schedule is highlighted by a Wisconsin Badger trip to Magness on October 25th and 26th, followed by a road trip to face Yale on November 1st & 2nd. If it was a prize fight, officials would have thrown the towel in after the first round. Denver forged an 8-stroke lead on second place Oral Roberts after Day 1. Denver added another 13 strokes to their advantage on Day 2. Denver bettered the next best team, South Dakota State, in the third and final round by 18 strokes. DU’s David Carle to Coach USA World Junior Team Again

For the second season in a row, Denver head coach David Carle has been tabbed to coach Team USA at the IIHF World Junior Tournament in Ottawa, Canada.  The tournament will begin on December 26, 2024 and will end with the gold medal game being played on January 5, 2025. Carle guided the USA to a 6-2 win over Sweden in the final of the 2024 tournament in Gothenburg, Sweden. DU’s run of athletic success extended another week. DU men’s and women’s lacrosse earned road victories this weekend, securing regular season Big EAST  titles. Sean Behrens Signs with Avs

Two-time NCAA champion junior defenseman Sean Behrens signed a three-year NHL deal with the Colorado Avalanche last night. He will begin his professional career with the Colorado Eagles of the AHL on an amateur tryout contract. His NHL deal will begin in the fall. Behrens signed his Avs contract Thursday night at the Colorado Avalanche game against the Oilers as his teammates looked on. The University of Denver launched The Denver Difference Celebration on Thursday night. Delayed by COVID-19, the fundraising campaign aims to add $1 billion to DU’s operations and endowment. Currently, the University of Denver’s endowment is estimated to be slightly more than that but no details were provided at the launch regarding the split between campaign funds into the endowment, ongoing operations, or capital projects. The tradition continued Saturday night as couches around the University and University Park neighborhoods met a cruel fate on the DU campus.
