I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream: A Tour of the Thankfully Impossible

Short, not sweet. Not to be mistaken for insult, but above big letters only stands to say, I wouldn’t want this to happen to me. Not that these kinds of ends to our species are impossible, but I am grateful that this sort of end requires a unique kind of specific set of accidents. To have an AI that takes over the world requires a special kind of luck, smarts, and advancement that the world doesn’t exactly have at the moment. (Or at least I don’t think we do.) With all that out of the way, back to the actual piece. Surroundings and how they’re important, especially here. Environmental descript ..read more

The Stranger by Albert Camus

Maman died today. As opposed to “Mother died today.” That’s an entirely different translation, wouldn’t you know! Originally I read half of this book in the translation that began with Mother and not Maman, and that one had about as richness and flavor as a dry old cracker from your upper cupboard. But the newest one, better known for being more literal than assumptive turned out to be the better of the two. Still, despite having read the better translation, it did not get back my hours spent sitting at a chair or waiting room wondering why this book was so well known for being quite so boring ..read more

A Review of Book Turned Film: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Unfortunately, I don’t think they do. The book never answered the title question, and that actually kind of bummed me out. But that’s not exactly the point of the novel huh? The context of this book is actually quite incredible. Written in the late sixties, this title has the pleasure of being something novel: a continuing inspiration for sci-fi both in film and literature of that age and onward. There are obvious criticisms one can make surrounding the direction and details of the book, but to a majority of those I say that for what it was, the book accomplished much. I’ll start with some cri ..read more

Robin Reviews a Book About Birds: A Small Review of Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott

Actually I lied to you, there’s almost no birds in this book sorry. Bird by Bird has almost nothing to do with birds as it turns out, but books. That makes it easier for me, since I didn’t know jack-all about birds anyway, except that I almost-dislike them. Instead, what is in this book is a mixing pot of anxiety, writing, life advice, and a touch, splatter, paint, perhaps a whole bucket more of life debilitating anxiety. (I’m not over-exaggerating here to be funny, this woman is anxious or I didn’t get her jokes. Yet again, this was written in the nineties so, I think the entire world was a m ..read more

A Fresh Review of an Old Journey: Hobbit

Tolkien’s Hobbit was for many, an introduction to literature, and for others, a doorstep they hardly darkened before life swept them away from reading. For me, it was a journey I never took, despite having many an opportunity to. I liken myself to an alternate Bilbo Baggins, an individual who could have had a great adventure, but was too daunted by its prospects to leap over the hedge and dive right in. However, I did not leave it this way. After university and its speedy challenges that whipped my reading habits like a whirlwind, I returned to the path I never walked, the book Hobbit. I was m ..read more

The Stigma of Voice Chat and Splatoon’s Right Decision

Although it’s nothing new, the topic of Splatoon is consistently a popular one. And who could question why? The game appeals to not only both adults and younger ones, but is in one of the topmost categories of gaming on the planet: shooters. One quality, besides the nature of the game itself, that makes the game stand apart from other shooters, is the fact that in game, a voice chat feature is nowhere to be found. Why do you think that is? From the words of the developer, and you can find those words here, the idea of voice chat is “too negative” for them to wish to use it on Splatoon as a ser ..read more

With a new form of gaming on the rise, the internet talks. But with something from Google and something that may or may not change the future of gaming on the rise? That’s something that gets people discussing, and its name is Google Stadia. The new way to game by Google is simple: a very small Google product that plugs into your TV, computer, phone, laptop, and tablet. There are no downloads, updates, or even a console for that matter. The Stadia is entirely digital. The claim from Google is a hefty one. 4k and 60fps on a streaming console that tiny? Potential users were skeptical and excite ..read more

Playerbase Entitlement: Fact or Fiction?

With the release of the latest title in the Pokemon mainline series, all the drama surrounding it comes to life on the internet. Was GameFreak lazy? Do fans deserve better? Do fans “deserve” anything, or are they “entitled?” This has been a moderately debated question over the years in gaming culture. In the 90’s or so, when entire franchises were just getting started, one would have been hard pressed to find someone who believed the idea of entitled customers. After all, if you don’t like the product, just don’t buy it, right? Some people don’t think so. In fact, most consumers these days in ..read more

Boycott and Video Games: Will It Ever Work?
Robin Talks About Video Games

Fan initiated boycott of a product is something that every media company hates to see. This not only means that the product is unloved by the fans, but it is also demanded to be changed. If you somehow don’t know this term, I’ll provide a simple explanation. The Sonic The Hedgehog Movie was announced in June of this year. Popularity of this franchise is relatively high, since Sonic is the staple figure of Sega (even if it doesn’t look like it right now.) The popularity of this movie however, was not. Fans, and the general public absolutely hated the design. The posters alone resulted in a smal ..read more
