If you could not tell yet, I have been doing a lot lately with the NSX Advanced Load Balancer (AVI) and really enjoying it. My knowledge and understanding of the product has increased over the last few weeks. I’ve become a big fan because of the tremendous value it can provide customers. These days we constantly hear phrases such as “any app, any cloud, any, any any…” and truth is this solution fits that bill. Reduce friction in modern day application delivery multi-cloud application services platform. On average customers see 90% faster application delivery. If that isn’t acceleration then I ..read more

Create NSX Advanced Load Balancer Cluster (AVI)

Deploying an NSX Advanced Load Balancer (AVI) controller cluster is a fairly easy task, and a necessary one to ensure system redundancy. That controller cluster needs to be highly available. Achieving HA requires a total of three (3) controller instances to be configured as a 3-node cluster and a cluster VIP. So you will need a total of four (4) static IP addresses in your management network to complete this task. There will be a “Leader” node and two “Follower” nodes once the cluster is online. You should be familiar with deploying the virtual appliances before starting. I will not be taking ..read more

This is a really quick fun and easy procedure to do accomplish in the work lab environment or a home lab to build your own skills. I really enjoy using this Fling and applaud this six contributors for creating this one. Keep in mind, the Easy Deploy for NSX Advanced Load Balancing appliance is a Fling designed to deploy virtual appliances in just a few clicks. I like it because it does not require extensive understanding to deliver a demo, proof-of-concept, or if you are simply using it for training purposes. If you are new to the NSX Advanced Load Balancer (aka AVI), the Easy Deploy is a grea ..read more

Configuring T0 ECMP in NSX-T

Here I am going to walk you through the process of configuring Tier-0 ECMP in NSX-T. You should have a good understanding of NSX-T and it’s architecture as well as understand ECMP prior to starting. Before I begin let’s review a little bit before I begin. ECMP is used to increase northbound/southbound communication bandwidth by adding multiple uplinks to the tier-0 logical router which is then configured by an admin for each Edge Node in an NSX edge cluster. These multiple ECMP paths serve multiple purposes including fault tolerance as well as load balancing of network traffic. In order for th ..read more

It has been far too long since my last blog post. I started a new role at World Wide Technology (WWT) back in February and hit the ground running working with my new colleagues and supporting my customers. As most of you know with a new job comes enablement and onboarding and many other things. Some of which takes a few months. Never did I imagine being a “COVID Baby” and making a change during the pandemic. All of this has been very time consuming and priority over blogging. But now I’m back! There is some exciting things here at WWT including the Advanced Technology Center (ATC). One of the ..read more

In this article I am going to take you through the steps for deploying the AVI controller and integrating it with VMware vCenter Server 7.0. If you are new to AVI Vantage, it is a software-based solution that can provide analytics in real-time as well as elastic application delivery services. I am a big fan of AVI due to it’s multi-cloud capabilities and it’s ability to bring flexible load balancing to today’s modern VMware-based hybrid cloud data centers. On a daily basis, I come across IT teams lacking agile application networking services; their inability to meet their network automation an ..read more

Finally back to writing some VMware blog articles after a brief hiatus here. Took a long break during the holiday season and then I had a life changing event when I switched jobs. Needless to say but I had a lot going on. Onward and upward 2021! For my first blog post of 2021, I want to focus on an area that comes as a request from one of my blog followers. I have an existing article for upgrading vCenter Server 6.5 to 7.0 but that one is pretty simple and straightforward. The wrinkle that I am adding to this scenario involves the source vCenter 6.5 environment and topology to include an exter ..read more
