Whoa. It feels like it’s been 87-thousand years since I last posted anything. I used to “need” this blog. Guess that’s no longer the case. But tonight I need this blog. My sister Karol (for those of you playing the home game), my middle sister recently lost her husband due to massive heart attack. The proverbial cardiac widow maker, so she’s been staying with me, going on three weeks now and it’s quite been good. I hate that it comes at the expense of losing her husband, but I have to admit, having ‘a roommate’, for the first time in roughly 25-years, ain’t so bad. I lived with chronic isolati ..read more

I celebrated my Thanksgiving as I prefer—in quiet solitude, with a trans cat named Greer: age unknown. She and I were accompanied by a diabetic salad of a dog, Bixby. I use salad because he is comprised of so many breeds, he’s practically a hybrid. He’ll be 13 in January, and although an old man & insulin dependent (ten units, twice a day, every day) he’s doing well. It’s truly been my privilege keeping him alive for the past two and a half years. Make no mistake, I adore them both, but Greer is a cat and all that that implies. She loves me, on her terms and is only demonstrative of this ..read more

I loathe heat. This summer feels like I moved I moved into an old Kenner Easy Bake Oven. Because of that, on any given day, I’m mole like. I don’t live in my house, it’s more like my semi-tastefully appointed burrow. I prefer dark, cool, confines and this house which I’ve spent years remodeling is finally remodeling, finally feels like my home. It’s situated on the a hill in a 19 year old community, that’s hidden and unless you know where to look, you’d never know it’ exists. Beyond the gated entry, you drive for about a mile always moving upward through a green belt with a jogging trail, of s ..read more

Ralph Gilley died. . Ralph was my classmate and I went to school with him for 12 years….maybe 13 if he went to Mrs. Porter’s kindergarten with me, which was private back in the day. I can’t remember if he did or not. But first grade through our Senior year, most definitely. But odd as this may sound, I don’t remember Ralph before Seventh grade. I graduated with 76 other 18 year olds in 1977, so it’s not like Ralph got lost in the crowd. I just can’t remember. Ralph was a big guy. He played tuba in the band and was defensive lineman in Jr High & High School. Ralph told me in High School he ..read more

As both of my readers know, Santa offloaded a big old nasty case of Omicron in my Christmas stocking. Now granted, I’ve been sicker. I’ve had much worse cases of bronchitis. It lasted about four days and I’ve been asymptomatic since December 28. But…. There have been some lingering after effects. Ii still have a slight cough with a now colorless phlegm (your welcome!), it’s still taking a while to regain my once Herculean strength. Everyday it gets a bit better, but it’s taught me what an energy zapper it’s been been, hauling around a gravity-prone 62 year old ass. As Covid Jr. was exiting my ..read more

Covid Version 2022

We the people, are suffering from significant Covid fatigue. We’ve been dealing with contradictory advice, information and instruction since late December of 2019. Now, to be fair, I can’t completely chastise any medical expert or national health concern….at least, I won’t in retrospect, especially in the very beginning, because this particular virus was new; it was called novel for most of the first year and the inconsistencies coming from the experts and medical entities made it abundantly clear, that research was extremely fluid, they were learning with every case and that meant sometimes c ..read more

Let’s Talk Teeth

Let’s all pretend we’re really going to maintain all the New Year’s resolutions we made and let’s also say taking better care of our teeth is one of those resolutions. What you’re about to read is part infomercial, part educational article and part cautionary tale. Let’s take a break shall we from my many personal woes, all the geo-political horrors worrying us all, that keep getting worse, Trump, Blithering Biden, Hillary’s potential fourth loss at running for president, the many intentional falsehoods about Covid, that Joe Gatto is leaving Impractical Jokers and instead, let’s focus on a top ..read more

A week ago, the conventional writer in me felt compelled to post a 2021 year in review…..like 800-trillion other wordsmiths. I tried composing a few lines, but then I got bored. Yes, bored, despite the fact that ’21 was a significant year in my life. I lost my mother, one aunt, my eldest paternal cousin and another cousin was just diagnosed with a malignant brian tumor and underwent surgery this afternoon. We’ll know more later and earlier this year, another cousin had a leg so infected, it had to be amputated at the hip. He had other fairly serious issues as well, but is recovering physically ..read more

Christmas Eve 2021

As I begin to type, it’s 8:45 (CST). A scant few hours remain in this year’s Christmas Eve offering and here in Texas it’s a mild but windy. Tomorrow, many of us will open gifts and swollen, red eyes to match, courtesy of God knows what allergens are blowing in from wherever. Actually, cedar is the biggest offender. Every winter, those damn tree/shrubs have a sex life and everyone suffers. Texas has its own version, really. Tree nerds will tell you our are from the genus juniperus, NOT the genus thuja, which is your average, everyday cedar. So, if you love Texas for its mild winters, friendly ..read more
