Is AI Art creative? (free AI art background wallpapers)

I’m just sharing these AI images for fun, because I went down a rabbit hole one night and generated a ton of fancy artwork I thought would look good printed out on large canvases. It’s a proof of concept, to see what can be achieved with AI image generators. But a question I keep seeing pop up is this: is AI art truly creative? The answer, always given with much confidence, is NO. Only humans are creative. A humans is the “creative” one who decides what they want and in what style and tells the robot what to do. A slightly skewed argument could be, “is AI art really ART” – the implication bein ..read more

Developmental revision tips from a professional book editor (avoid common writing mistakes)

I’ve talked a ton about editing over the years but it can be tricky to find all of the specific writing advice I’ve created to help writers improve their manuscript, so I made a quick video referring to a bunch of valuable resources and I’m going to organize them here for easy access. Keep in mind this is all 100% free content and it’s better than most people’s expensive writing courses, but only if you’re prepared to dig deep and really work on your craft. Proofreading and copy editing This stuff should be easy, but it’s pedantic and time-consuming. You should use Grammarly to go through and ..read more

AI’s Looming Shadow: Soma is a Pandora’s Box into a Brave New World of Artificial Reality

This particular rabbit hole began when someone pointed out that OpenAi’s new text-to-video tool is named the same thing as the drug of euphoria in Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World. It isn’t, but it’s close. Sora is the new AI video tool that came uncomfortably too soon, and should absolutely freak you out. Soma is the drug people take in Brave New World’s dystopian future to ignore the harsh truth of reality and live in a blissful statement of happy ignorance. People aren’t yet commenting on the similarity in names (we’ll break down the full meaning later), but some have been quick to combine t ..read more

Living the Dream in Tainan: A Digital Nomad’s Travel Guide to Taiwan

In my early 20’s, after exploring Europe and South America, I felt drawn to Asia – at that time, English schools paid recruiters to seduce foreigners to small town schools overseas. I’d always planned on going to Japan, but somehow ended up in Taiwan instead. At the start of the first Sars pandemic, I was sleeping on the floor of a young couple and their toddler, forced to perform teaching demos at schools in tiny towns I had no interest of working for, without any teaching experience other than a hasty TESOL certificate I got in Barcelona. But despite the rocky start, I’m still mostly here t ..read more

How to make $10,000 online FAST (experiments in radical prosperity)

Over the past decade, I’ve made about half a million bucks online. That sounds like a lot, but it works out to around $50,000 a year and half of it goes into sustaining my online platform, so not great income, but I am making a living with my creative projects. However, though I have hit a handful of $10K+ months, I haven’t been able to hit that repeatedly in way that scales, even though that’s been my financial aim for practically the entire time. There’s a ton of Big Ideas I just never finished or got around to, and honestly I don’t actually work on my business and have no hustle culture (I ..read more

Most of the time, working from home is great – but it can get stale, especially if you’re in a cramped home office. Like most people, I started focusing on online creative gigs without really coming to terms with just how much time I’d be spending in my makeshift workspace. Last year I started dreaming up what a perfectly inspiring home office could look like, and that keeps me aspiring towards greater things. I’ve loosely grouped these into themes so you can find what you’re looking for; I start with the more minimal ordinary small space ideas and move into fantasy and luxury offices you can ..read more

Writer’s Burnout: Will You Let Yourself Smolder Until You Become a Cinder?

I don’t give a f*ck. I’m sick and tired of everything. Period. That’s how I wanted to start ghostwriting an article opening with How to… FYI, usually, I don’t swear. And in my defense, I put an effort to try and write at least something. I dragged my ass into the chair, crouched over my keyboard, and tried to type to pull a word out of my brain with tweezers. But it wouldn’t come out! It was just like a stubborn thorn stuck in the finger (I had tons of those as a kid.) What was wrong with me? You must have already guessed it – writer’s burnout. If you experience something close to it, don’t wo ..read more
