2024 is not off to a good start for the Cardinals. They entered their four-game weekend series against the Brewers six games below the .500 mark and six games back of first in the NL Central.
If 2023 is any indication, then we know how the story ends. Hint: it’s not pretty. But if the Cardinals keep struggling this badly, it’s a very real possibility that they will be sellers at the trade deadline, just like last year.
I thought that last year the Cardinals should have traded Paul Goldschmidt while his value was high to see what they could get for him. It ..read more

A series preview
Hey! The St. Louis Cardinals are playing the Milwaukee Brewers again! These two teams faced each other just a few weeks ago. The Cardinals were swept that series and have gone 6-8 since with six of those losses from the past eight games. It has been a rough stretch lately for el Birdos. Let’s just look at the dang pitching matchups.
Thursday, May 9 at 6:40 pm CT: Sonny Gray vs. Tobias Myers
On Thursday the Cardinals face 25-year-old rookie Tobias Meyers. He has only thrown 209 pitches in his major league career in a total of 13 innings pitched. He ha ..read more

Wondering how the minor league hitters are doing? For the most part, the answer is eh
Last week, writing escaped my mind until the absolute last minute, forcing me to come up with random topics. I said in that post that I actually had an idea what I was going to write, but obviously I didn’t have time by the time I remembered I had to write. The idea is today’s post, which is to give an update on the performances on the minor leaguers. Today, we will be solely focused on the hitters.

The writers answer your questions about the Cardinals, cheese, and more!
Good morning, Viva El Birdos!
The VEB writing team gathered on Tuesday evening — even though I kept saying Wednesday... my spring has been so busy I honestly don’t know what day it is — to talk about the Cardinals and a bunch of other things!
This was a full-blown Q&A episode! You all provided a few dozen questions for us. We committed just over an hour to answering them.
We talk about how we have spent our spring — how much baseball we’ve gotten to watch and what else we’ve been up to in this long break between epis ..read more

The Cardinals suffered their fourth straight loss at the hands of the Mets Tuesday night 7-5 in a game that saw a blown lead and a significant injury to a very important player.
The Cardinals jumped to an early lead with a Brendan Donovan leadoff home run. The Cardinals kept the foot on the gas scoring two more runs on a Nolan Arenado sacrifice fly and Alec Burleson RBI single ending the first inning enjoying a 3-0 lead.
The good start was tarnished in the top of the second when a J.D. Martinez swing caught the left forearm of Willson Contreras. Contreras reacted im ..read more

The Cardinals woes continue as they drop the series opener to the Mets 4-3 in St. Louis Monday night.
St. Louis sent veteran Kyle Gibson to the mound who found himself in early trouble in the first inning. After a two-out walk to Francisco Lindor, DJ Stewart drove a ball that split the left-center gap for an RBI double putting the Mets up 1-0
Gibson was able to settle in and only found trouble in the fifth after two singles to start the inning coupled with a Lars Nootbaar error set the Mets up second and third nobody out. A Starling Marte RBI groundout and a Lindor ..read more
