2020: the Season of Unpredictability

2020 has been nothing short of __________________________________ (insert favorite adjective/phrase here). In the spring we were on the verge of starting our eighth season delivering top-notch food tours in three of our favorite areas of St. Louis. And then it all came to a screeching halt when COVID-19 was declared a pandemic.  For the safety of our guests, the staff and owners of the restaurants we feature, and our tour guides,  we knew that the Savor Saint Louis Food Tours simply could not begin. Not soon after, restaurants had to shut down, some temporarily and some permanently ..read more

This review was written by one of our fabulous Savor Saint Louis Food Tour guides, Shawna! Read her experience taking a food tour in Toronto. Toronto Kensington Market Food Tour — Chopsticks and Forks Hello! Also… hallo , hola, and tashi dele! I was so eager to go on this tour with my brother Byron during our sibling get-away to Canada… and it proved a wonderful choice! The Kensington Market neighborhood has a sprawling, internationally diverse array of grocery shops and restaurants, so it is often called “the kitchen of Toronto.” I had visited Kensington Market long ago and loved it back then ..read more

Devouring Madrid

Taking the Tapas Food Tour with Devour Madrid is the perfect way to enjoy one of Spain’s most popular ways to eat and on a recent trip there it’s exactly what we did. Our tour guide was an American who had lived in Madrid for five years. She had a great rapport with us and could look at the various sights and tell of the customs in a way that was helpful for our stay. The food tour started at 5:30 p.m. and lasted 4 hours for a 1.7-mile walk. Each place we stopped at had a special tapas they were known for such as mushrooms, blistered peppers, and patatas bravas. We also were tre ..read more

A Spooktacular Tour

We had the perfect weather for our recent guided tour — it was on the cooler side, dark, dreary and rainy — you see, our team decided to take a haunted history walking tour of St. Louis just a few days before Halloween. We joined David Riordan with his Haunted History Tours in one of the oldest buildings on Laclede’s Landing and then walked the streets of the area for the next 1.5 hours hearing stories of ghosts and history in the most entertaining of ways. Riordan, a sixth generation St. Louisan (and here, I thought my third generation roots was old) mixed the history with some fanc ..read more

Venice, Italy. What could be more fun than to go to one of the most famous cities in the world, soak in its culture, and enjoy the fabulous food? For us, that included taking a food tour while there. Venice Bites Food Tour was the perfect tour to take to get a feel for the city when we first arrived. Taking the tour early allowed us to really know an area and be able to go back later during our stay to some of the restaurants to truly enjoy them. Venice Bites is run by a couple who are originally from California but now live full time in Venice. Our food tour was late afternoon/early evening s ..read more

Veteran Savor Saint Louis Tour Guide Shawna recently visited Phoenix, AZ and took in a food tour with her mom. Below are her thoughts. I couldn’t resist trying out a food tour in nearby Scottsdale during a quick winter get away to Phoenix with my mom. Our Scottsdale Trolley Food Tour with Taste It Tours started in the lobby of the iconic Hotel Valley Ho. Built in 1956 and catering to movie stars and celebrities, this hotel still maintains its 1950s look and feel. Veteran Tour Guide Trey led with introductions for our group of ten, plus let us know that this culinary walking tour ..read more

What’s the wackiest guided tour you’ve ever taken?
Savor Saint Louis

Being a food tour guide has opened my eyes to a whole new world when traveling. When that realization set in — that a whole slew of other types of guided tours besides food tours existed — a light bulb went off. So when I set out to find just what some of those other guided tours might be, well, mind blown. But first, I asked the Savor team what other types of guided tours they’ve taken and here are some of their favorites: Shawna said, next to food tours, bike tours are her favorite way to see a city. She and her husband especially liked two tours in Germany: Munich and Potsdam. She said: “In ..read more
