Everything I Made in 2023 – Sewing Recap

Even though I’m a little late with this kind of post, I thought it’s still worth creating a list of all the wonderful things I managed to sew in 2023. 2023 started off really strong with some fun projects, it had some very challenging projects and I sewed my first prom dress and gown. The end of the year teetered out a little and I didn’t make anything exciting due to burnout but I did make a few simple pieces using patterns I really enjoy sewing. In January we started the year off really strong and made 4 garments. The first was a tie up top and shorts combo set which I planned to wear whilst ..read more

Unplugging for Peace: Why Taking a Social Media Break is a Mental Health Must

What I’ve noticed after taking almost a year off from social media If you’ve followed me on any of my social media, you might have noticed that I’ve taken a huge break and haven’t posted for close to a year at this point. Although that may sound like social media suicide for some people, I got to a point in my life where I had to prioritise my mental health and the crushing need to take a break for many benefits. Although I’ve missed the process of posting, interacting and being inspired by other posters on social media, I’ve also loved the silence, the calm and the extra time I’ve had to focu ..read more

A Moment of Calm in a Chaotic World In our fast-paced lives, filled with deadlines, errands, and constant connectivity, it’s easy to forget the simple pleasures. But amidst the chaos, there exists a small, steaming cup of happiness waiting to be savoured: a cup of tea. If you’ve spent any time on my blog, you’d know that I believe a cup of tea can solve any problem you have and throughout the day I love to indulge in a cuppa. As a constant advocate for positive mental health, I’ve noticed it’s been a while since I’ve written about anything mental health-related. I rectify this, I wanted to sha ..read more

According to the radio, it’s the most wonderful time of the year but I know for many of us right now, we are riding the struggle bus. This year I wanted to sew at least one garment per month to keep myself active and hopefully use it as a means to stay focused and creative. I started off the year quite well but over the last few months, I’ve struggled to keep up with new and exciting sewing projects. Right now, my life is being held together by sheer optimism so I don’t have it in me to make something overly fantastical for Christmas. This year I’ll be having a very quiet and calm Christmas so ..read more

As soon as I learn I am going to be travelling for a holiday, I instantly start planning all the outfits I wish to sew despite knowing I will never have enough time. Although I’ve been there before, I recently got offered a chance to travel back to Club Med in the Maldives (see my previous trips and sewing projects here and here) and there was no way I was declining such a fabulous trip so it was off to the sewing room to plan my projects. I had originally planned to make 4 garments for my trip but I was struck down with the flu a week before my trip resulting in me only just finishing one gar ..read more

It’s become some what of a tradition to bake and create a vintage lamb cake for every Easter. I have been making these cakes since 2020 and as I had to skip last years due to travel, I was determined to complete this years cake regardless of whatever else I had going on in my life. Over the years, these lamb cakes have ranged from adorable, to an absolute fail so who knows what this years will turn out like. Let’s grab out lamb tin, our aprons and get started on an Easter lamb cake for 2024. Aprons on! Relive the previous baking adventures here: The first and best attempt 2020 The absolute fai ..read more

Sewing Goals for 2024

Last year I made a list of sewing goals that I thought were going to be easily achievable, but then life got in the way. So this year I will be revisiting some goals and making what will hopefully be some more attainable goals instead. Sew More Indie Patterns This is one goal I didn’t get to do last year as I simply ran out of time. There was one pattern I tried and it was honestly a disaster (blog coming soon) and I do plan to master the pattern this year or at least figure out what I’m doing wrong. There are so many great indie patterns out there, they definitely need some love. Sew some sl ..read more

Sewing Miss Lexi Heart a Rockabilly Pageant dress using Charm’s L’Amour Dress

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that as soon as someone knows you like to sew, they will ask you to hem or make them something. I often get asked if I could just “whip up” a dress for someone for an event they are having and unfortunately I will most of the time turn them down. I am not a professional by any means and I will never sell any dresses that I’ve made. I sew for myself as it’s a hobby I love and I don’t want to turn it into a business. In saying that, some friends I just can’t say no to and todays blog is one such case. My dear friend Miss Lexi Heart was planning to travel t ..read more

Sewing Patterns for Vintage and Retro Style Sleepwear

There’s nothing quite like vintage sleepwear; it’s always just that little bit luxurious, extra and ridiculously opulent which makes it something highly sought after for collectors. Vintage sleepwear is also very delicate which can make it difficult to actually use on a regular basis; personally, I use mine for photoshoots and very special occasions because I don’t want to damage any of the items I own. As an avid sewing enthusiast, I have recently started to look more into sleepwear patterns and have already made a few (check out this adorable attempt here). Getting over excited by all the de ..read more

How to Survive Brooch Release Day with Erstwilder

I’ve been shopping with Erstwilder for over a decade and over the years, I’ve loved watching the brand grow, expand, being one of their models and of course, seeing the stunning jewellery pieces they release. Erstwilder, and similar jewellery brands such as Deer Arrow and Lipstick and Chrome, release a fair amount of collections every year and with each collection, there are always pieces that sell out at lightning speed (Pete Cromer anyone?). After every release, I always get so many messages asking me how I manage to get the pieces I wanted and if I have any tips for shopping come release da ..read more
