“Slow down you move to fast, you have to make the morning last,” words of wisdom from Simon and Garfunkel. The time was 1966 a time that compared to now was crawling at a snails pace. Yet people still recognised the beauty of living slowly. I first heard of ‘slow travel’ after reading an article in a travel magazine about slow food.
As walkers, slow travel is a concept that we have embraced and we continue to embrace more and more. During our journey we have also started to embrace the whole Slow Movement both out of necessity and enjoyment.

Am I having a Midlife Crisis?
I woke up one morning and in the mirror was someone I didn’t recognise, oh there were elements of her that were familiar. There was the glint of the dreamer I once was, but looking back was a woman, a woman I no longer recognised or even really liked. It wasn’t the wrinkles or the smattering of grey hair that was unfamiliar, it went much deeper than that. The woman staring back was regretful, scared, confused. Is this what a midlife crisis looks like? Quick, Dr Google help!

Now I don’t have any regrets about my life but there are a few things I wish I could have told myself that would have made life a little bit easier.
Life is lived in the now
Waiting to be thinner richer smarter so you can be happier is a recipe for disaster. Lean to love right now, appreciate everything you have, take time to notice the little things. Be silly more often. Life is short, have fun, learn to laugh at yourself. Don’t take things so seriously. Don’t worry what other people think. Those that really love you will love your silliness.

This isn’t the best picture that we have ever taken but it is one of the most important.
You see I was one of those people that played by the rules I studied hard, got a good job, got married, had a family and started working towards building a nest egg for retirement. I had so many plans for when I had enough money to retire.
But going back a few years ago I realised that I would never have enough money to do all the things I wanted to do. More importantly, I would be to old and wouldn’t have enough years to do all the things I wanted to do. So the Spunky Rooster and I decided to ta ..read more

People’s reaction to our journey varies from bewilderment to envy to disbelief. How can two people just pack up and take off with no plans, no end destination, no end date and really not a lot of financial resources? Well…pretty bloody easily really! You just have to decide how you want to live your life. For us that answer was full of adventure and a life rich in experiences. However, it also means no nice house, no expensive cars, very little disposable income, and definitely no security. Sometimes it will mean nowhere to sleep and worse, only owning two pairs of undies. Now what I have ..read more

The journey of life is one that many of us miss out on because we are destination driven. I’m sure everyone of you has heard, “when you finish college, you will get a great job or when you retire you can travel or when you get married and have children.” These beliefs are destination orientated, missing out on enjoying the pleasures of the journey.
Delaying our happiness until we have achieved an acceptable standard or status is dangerous because, what if you don’t achieve the milestone? What is the outcome? Disappointment, regret, feelings of failure, feelings of inadequacy?

Do you have a bucket list? I’d be surprised if you didn’t, everyone seems to have one these days.
A bucket list is a list of things that you want to do before you die. Sounds simple enough, however, none of us know when we are going to die so we don’t know when this list needs to be completed by.
If you are truly committed to your bucket list, there has to be an urgency to experience and complete all the things on the list otherwise it’s just a dream list a wishy washy waste of time.
So what is stopping you from doing the things on your bucket list?
I know for me it was a mixture ..read more

“I did some financial planning and it looks like I can retire at 65 and live comfortably for 11 minutes.”
I read this quote and laughed so hard, because, for us it was so true. If we continued to live the life we were living until we were 65, not only would we not have enough savings to retire and travel the world but, we wouldn’t be physically able to do what we are currently doing.
Not everyone can make the choice we have, to go on a no return date adventure, but a majority of you in our age group could take time out to find your passion.
