Me on retreat with @zephyryoga @secretyogaclub in Tuscany This article was written for MySatsang, an authentic new platform for yoga teachers and seekers that I founded with my fellow yogi and wonderful friend Tara O’Rourke. “You know the ones that make you feel the most you. The ones that lift you up and help you remember who you really are. The ones that remind you that blip in the road is just that, a blip. They are the ones when you walk out of a room, they make you feel like a better person that when you walked in. They are the ones that even if you don’t see them face to face you see t ..read more

Our MySatsang Community Some of you may know that last year, along with my yogi and skincare colleague and friend Tara O’Rourke, I co-founded MySatsang an authentic community for yoga teachers, students and seekers to come together, support and nurture one another through authentic practices, inspirational teachings and mindful movement. We are growing, slowly and organically, which was always our intention. Our website is in development and once we can, we will offer a combination of both on-location and online gatherings and workshops for our satsang community. In the meantime, we have ..read more

Skin Proofing

In our world of masks and sanitisers, it’s hardly surprising that our skin is feeling Irritated, sensitive and possibly a little confused. The changing weather doesn’t help either and until spring really does show her beautiful self once again, rather than the occasional teasing visit, we need to continue protecting our skin from winter’s elements. While it can be tempting to pile on multiple products, in the hope that at least some of them might soothe and nurture the skin, in many cases you are doing more harm than good and leaving your skin even more irritated and sensitised. The new ..read more

I am torn. I’m fortunate in that I am often gifted beautiful skincare for trial and review. Recently I was given two new cleansing balms - Nunaia (whom I have written about before here) Superfood Cleansing Balm and the hot-off-the-shelf Ground Rebalance Face Balm. Organic and sustainability come easily to both brands with soil to skin ethos guaranteed. Choosing my favourite - well that is the problem! Ground Wellbeing Ground is the latest addition to the artisanal skincare portfolio in Ireland. Founded by Cork-based wellness entrepreneur Peigin Crowley who has long been at the forefron ..read more

The moment the world went into lockdown last March insomnia rates soared across the globe, as did anxiety and other related problems. Many of us already have an inbuilt toolkit to help us through troubled times and sleep is high on its list of contents, alongside what we fuel our bodies with and taking more time to simply ‘be’ with ourselves and with nature. All well and good, but for those continually struggling with getting to sleep (remember sleep is not a place we go every night and the more we stress about not getting there (wherever that might be?) the more anxious and restless we become ..read more

Beyond the Stretch: Yoga & Me

I have been practicing yoga for close to quarter of a century now, initially introduced to the rigid dynamic sequences of Ashtanga yoga in a hot steamy studio in the middle of Hong Kong’s nightclub-fuelled Wanchai district. That’s where I first felt a real sense of community (or Satsang in yogic speak) as my yoga tribe nurtured one another over morning practice, coffees and often evenings out. As I began to delve deeper, I soon realised there was so much more to the practice than creating the hot, endorphin-fuelled sweat and keeping myself physically toned and fit, as somehow my mind s ..read more

Meditation.... for the love of it

Meditation doesn’t come easier than at the magical Ananda in India I know I’m not alone with the following words. Along with many, many other well intentioned people I have tried to meditate for years…..and years, only to give up after a few sessions, concluding that it is just not for me. Almost daily yoga practice helps, but as soon as I sit in meditation at the end of my practice, the panic button pings: “I cant do this…I cant do this” and my mind revs up a gear into overdrive as the most random thoughts race like the best F1 drivers around and around the Monaco track. Although guid ..read more

Just imagine if you could broaden your yogic and spiritual knowledge alongside like-minded people and bring these teachings into your everyday life and into our world, while also becoming a more empowered version of yourself. ….. This is what Satsang is about. Satsang is an ancient Sanskrit word broadly translated as ‘truth-company,’ or being in the company of the wise and prior to our world of workshops and retreats, Satsang was the primary way in which teachers interacted with others to share their knowledge and practices. As the global pandemic has made human connection ..read more

Barrier Security

Our skin ages as we age. Right? Experts tell us that in order to understand the skin ageing process, we need to look at the outermost layer - the stratum corneum - the vital front-line defence that guards and protects our skin. Much like a personal security guard, when working effectively the barrier prevents potential toxins from entering the skin cell, while also protecting what lies within. If our skin is dull and weak then chemicals can penetrate more easily causing possible inflammation resulting in skin sensitivity and other issues. What’s more, now that masks have become a staple ..read more
