It's been since the pandemic that I had taught a classroom of interested students.  I had been restricted to Zoom and private classes.   After teaching at the old library in a small, tiny area in main library, it was quite nice to have a community room to spread out and share the Zentangle method.  My first visit to this beautiful new library since they remodeled - was so exciting.   Together, 24 participants gathered to learn about this new meditative art, Zentangle.  I shared the basic class of learning how to apply "tangles" to your art piece and create ..read more

You can't say it doesn't rain in Southern California.  It's an unusual rainy day.  Gloomy and early,  I head off to my 8am private class at Tina's in Del Mar.  I love the one-on-one classes to share an Introduction to Zentangle class.  I always wait for the ah ha moment when they see it - the magic of Zentangle.   Basic Zentangle is learning about the string, tangles, and shading, and the meditative feeling while tangling.  Our tangles today were Flux, Printemps, Crescent Moon, Hollibaugh with some Tipple, and Poke Root. Tina's very first Zent ..read more

December 11th, I traveled by Zoom to Denver, Colorado for a Zentangle class.  Kids from 5-12 years old joined me hosted by Arapahoe Library. There was a hint of snow in Denver left on the ground from past snowfall while I was here in San Diego, California with a warm day of 75 degrees.  I still have a bucket list of having a "white" Christmas someday.  Usually San Diego Christmas days are around 75-80 degrees. The librarian's Heather and Ashley hosted our class, and we choose a Zentangle snowflake greeting card as our project.  The library does a very nice job of material ..read more

April 2023, Earth Day, we celebrated in Susan Mueller's 4th grade class at Holmes Elementary School in San Diego, California. Mrs. Mueller asked me to share Zentangle again with her class. I thought it would be fun to join Zentangle with an Earth Day project   The kids did a great job with five tangles:                             Betweed, Rainking, Florz, Knightsbridge, a special beating heart. I love teaching the kids Zentangle.  They are always excited and it leaves them wanting more.  The ..read more

Dragonfly Zentangle ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) came to the Denver library today.  About 42 kids ages 5-12 join me to create a fun project. One cute little boy shared a true fact:  Dragonflies were around before the dinosaurs. Before dinosaurs and birds came on the scene, dragonflies were king, with wingspans of about two and a half feet. That was 300 million years ago, during the late Paleozoic period. Despite all the changes that have taken place since then, dragonflies are still around. While modern dragonflies have wingspans of about two to five inches, fossil dragonflies hav ..read more

Another fun class at Arapahoe library in Denver, Colorado.  The kids and I created a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) with a fun snowman for the season.  My Zoom class came from San Diego. We actually had a rainy day in San Diego which is very unusual for Southern California. I guess you could say it was "our snow day".   After learning four tangles (Keeko, Tipple, Bales, and Printemps), we added a little color to snowman scarf and called it a day after our hour-long class.   Thanks to Ashley and Kara for hosting a fun class for the kids. Happy tangling to all.  ..read more

The Holidays are upon us.  Just a couple weeks left to get your gifts/wrapped, cookies, pies, invitations, and caroling done. Today was my second Zoom class for the San Diego City libraries since March 2020, after the pandemic hit. Class was at University Community Library in UTC, San Diego, CA.  Thank you to Library Manager, Melissa, for asking me back.   I thought a Zentangle Nutcracker was appropriate for the season.  About twenty students joined me with instrumental holiday background music to top off this stressful time of year with calm, relaxing, two hours ..read more

After almost two years shut down from teaching at San Diego Libaries during this crazy pandemic,  finally, I am back at the library to teach Zentangle classes. Thank you to the Melissa, University Community library Manager, for asking me back.   November 16th, I created a fun tile for my first class back called "stacked books".  Here are a couple of the art pieces from class. I am happy to announce one of my students (who joined class today), recently completed the four day seminar and is now an officially Certified Zentangle Teacher.  Welcome to a wonderful group of w ..read more

Not to get into politics - but RBG has some amazing accomplishments during her life. Ruth Bader Ginsburg one of only four females Supreme Court Justices in history.  A couple of her many accomplishments wile in office. -Women have the right to financial independence and equal benefits. Ginsburgā€™s work paved the way for the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, which passed  in 1974 and allowed women to apply for bank accounts, credit cards, and mortgages without a male co-signer. She also helped ensure that women could receive the same military housing allowances as men ..read more
