Wondering why soy-free is considered healthy but so is tofu? Or why people pay more for soy-free products at all? And especially in, umm, chicken feed?! Let me walk you through the 2 big reasons we chose to go soy-free so you'll have less things to go "hmm" about. 1. The Planet Motivating, right? Who doesn't love the planet? From a mass ag perspective, soy is not environmentally friendly. We can get real science'y here, but I'll summarize to say that a key feature to the success of the planet is biodiversity. Too much of one thing (crop, animal species, or say... carbon) throws the innate bal ..read more

In business, the goal is to get what you're offering into the hands of those who need it. In the business of animal feed, how to do that is challenging. Everyone I know imagines our goal is to grace the shelves of the big box stores where oodles of feed comes and goes. They're then surprised to learn that's not our goal at all. Our fundamental goal is to get the feed we make into the hands of people who are probably a lot like us - chicken loving and health conscious people who want to make good choices. Those choices often involve the planet, our health, kindness towards the animals we keep ..read more

Why switch to Farm Strong feeds?

If you're already feeding a Certified Organic feed, you may ask yourself "why switch?" That's the very question we asked ourselves that led to creating these feeds, so we're happy to walk you through it. - Quality: We see benefits in our feeds compared to that of competitor brands. In pelleted and crumbled feeds, we see a lack of palatability and steam-treated ingredients. Chemically-treated water is used for the steam processing that creates pellets and crumbles, and that's off putting for our preferences toward natural options. Plus, it negatively impacts the environment. - Effort: When it ..read more

Why so grey?

Why are our mashes grey? Sunflower seeds! Your flock loves them and we’ve harnessed their nutrition to balance the absence of corn and soy in a palatable and nutritious way. Sunflower seeds do darken the expected golden color of feed, with their all natural goodness. And when it comes to color, the chickens don't mind. Ours flock to the feeders holding this balanced and blended mash. And the yolks are as golden as ever ..read more

Why a mash?

When we started out making our own feeds - guided by our own nutritionist, mind you - we began with whole grains. And while we loved the concept of unaltered whole foods (see our own pantry for proof), we found whole grains didn't "feed" our chickens well. Waste was one issue. Selectivity another. And then poor digestibility became apparent. The important micro nutrients (vitamins, minerals and some forms of protein) were lost to the bottom. Truth be told, breaking whole grains down a bit by a minimal amount of grinding has minimized each of these concerns and optimized digestibility. By form ..read more

Our Origin Story
Farm Strong Feed Co.

To say we love our animals is an understatement. Farm Strong Feed Company is the brain child of two women who share a passion for giving their animals their best lives, while also safe guarding our own health and protecting the environment. Knowing what you want but not being able to find it available is a frustration we've all felt. Especially those who prioritize health, environment, and quality. In this world of fast profit, fast fashion and fast food, our priorities as health-minded women were not reflected in many marketplaces. This was evident in the feed stores. Locally, we had one sol ..read more
