We are almost 4 months into a global pandemic that has created a space for truly flexible working, something the modern job market was somewhat lacking. Most of us have been translated from a world where the ability to work flexibly, consistently, involved tiresome HR forms and processes, impact assessments, managerial approval and finally, if you make it that far, a phase of negotiation where you reach a middle ground decision with your company. We are now in a stage where flexible working is not just an option, but a necessity. Companies have fallen over themselves to prepare and equip their ..read more

The decade that is 2020…..so far

If ever a season in life felt like Armageddon, 2020 so far is it. Where does one even begin? December 31st 2019 was filled with so much hope, lots of New Year goals, resolutions (which I hate) and excitement. For many, it represented an opportunity to start again, to put plans into motion, to finally get off our arses and get things done. Even though the difference between 2019 and 2020 is just a day, psychologically leaving a year behind can be an exhilarating feeling that fills one with hopeful expectation. And then screeching halt. Let us take a big fat pause. As the BBC news often describe ..read more

Hi it’s me…do you remember, that mummy blogger that has a lot to say and dumps all her thoughts on a website for you all to read and be mildly amused? It feels like it’s been so long since I did this, I’m a little guilty like an owner that abandoned their pet dog at the park for a long deserved break while she figures things out. But rest assured I am baackkkkkkk! Well I’m back until my next break (lol). This is an I’m sorry but I’m not sorry moment and I’ll tell you exactly why. Before I delve into this blog, can I say I have genuinely missed writing! Having the time to actually sit down, cle ..read more

The Big Return to Work – Rude Awakenings

As my alarm went off at 5:50 am for the first time in almost a year, my heart sank and sang simultaneously. Besides the fact that it was still pitch black outside, and I second guessed whether my clock was incorrect and it was actually 1 am, I mentally woke myself up, dragged myself like the creepy girl from The Ring (not literally) into the shower. Usher in my first day back at work after an 11-month maternity leave. I had anticipated this day coming but when it’s staring you right the face, it’s a whole different situation. But off I went! I had flutters in my belly as though it was my firs ..read more

5 things I know now, I wish I knew then - 21 vs 31

I recently (almost a year ago) said goodbye to an eventful, tumultuous and life defining decade; adios 20s and a big welcome to the 30s. Yes, I now tick a different box on the forms that groups me with 39 year olds and I will comfortably slot into the overs category of the X Factor; as old as that sounds to my forever young mind, this new decade presents a lot of exciting things to do look forward to. Reflecting on the new almost 31-year-old versus the 21-year-old me, there are some major life lessons learnt and a lot of chapters I would like to rewrite, erase or simply pretend didn’t happen ..read more

The ocean of apparent “must haves” – useful gift ideas for a baby
CuriousNoah

It is an undeniable fact that there is a vast array of new parent must buys out there. There is something for absolutely everything you can think of. As new parents we are either spoilt for choice or thrown into a sea of confusion when it comes to what a baby actually needs. It can be likened to being in a room with a thousand voices each screaming “buy me”. Smart marketing ploys by companies will have you thinking your baby cannot do without what they are trying to push on you but I have come to learn that probably about 20% of what’s available are actually essential…and that is me being gene ..read more

To 2020 and beyond – New Year Goals and Book Recommendations

I used to be a New Year’s resolution believer up until a few years ago after many failed attempts to make them stick beyond January 13th, I came to realise that a new tactic was needed to focus my mind and formulate plans for upcoming years. We’ve all been guilty of this; we start the New Year with a bang, filled with so much zeal and drive to conquer all our demons and attain the impossible. Full steam ahead. But…then January begins to drag (those 31 days feel like 87) and before you know it, life has poured a cold bucket of water on your burning fire and you are left with sizzling smoke that ..read more

The big come back: returning to work post maternity leave
CuriousNoah

And just as quickly as it started, you are facing the bitter sweet end of your maternity leave and the prospect of returning to work is looking you dead in the eye saying “come here baby”. For some mothers, this can be a welcomed change and break from baby talk, spill ups, nappy changes and never ending laundry. For others however, it may be the dreaded return they were hoping would never come, bringing bouts of anxiety, guilt and worry. The majority probably lie somewhere in the middle. You are sad and know you will miss your little one, after all, they have been your most reliably present fr ..read more

Winter travel bucket list - festive trips

Winter 2019 has snuck up on us like a thief in the night and I can’t believe how quickly the year has flown by. Summer felt like it lasted all of 8 days and before I could blink and say hallelujah it was getting dark at 5pm once again. Like the majority of the British population I live and long for the long summer days, with the sun blazing at the occasional 29 degrees Celsius and the cool breezy evenings it’s accompanied by. I remember many summers where I’d shoot off to the West End of London, my favourite locations being Leicester Square and Covent Gardens both of which came alive with vibr ..read more
