Getting back to blogging
A Cornish Geek

I’ve neglected this blog over the last year or two and I really want to get back into creating long-form content. As I uploaded photos ready for my next post, I went down a bit of a rabbit hole of previous posts… I’ve been blogging for 20 years but this blog in particular is nearly 12 years old. Previously called A Few of my Favourite Things (it became A Cornish Geek in 2014), it launched in July 2012 with a post on my favourite books. My first stationery post followed in September. It was largely a lifestyle blog, exploring books, films, stationery, life in Cornwall, and my pregnancy, as wel ..read more

Children’s Mental Health Week 2024
A Cornish Geek

Half of mental health problems start by the age of 14 (source). 1 in 5 children experience mental health difficulties (source). Children and young people with mental health difficulties go an average of 10 years between becoming unwell and getting help (source). These statistics are horrific but there are small things we can do that will make a big difference. I’ve been hosting creative wellbeing workshops for all ages for nearly two years now but attendance at my children’s sessions has dropped. I need to charge for tickets to cover my expenses (resources, room hire) and workshops aren’t a pr ..read more

The new Noris pencil is even more durable and break-resistant, and can draw for a whopping 15 miles. So no more buying packs of colouring pencils every few months. STAEDTLER doesn’t just recycle materials, they upcycle them, using wood chips – not just their own, but sourced throughout the wood processing indus ..read more

Exaclair sponsored a recent #LettersInMyStyle challenge and I loved shining the spotlight on this set of Herbin autumn inks. The challenge featured a glass dip pen too and I had so much fun playing with different variations. Fun, right? Now I’ve got my eye on the winter, spring, and summer sets. They also do scented inks! One of my creative highlights of the year has been hosting in-person workshops. In case you missed it, I currently host fortnightly creative wellbeing taster sessions, where I introduce people to creative journaling and brush lettering, plus monthly journaling and lettering workshops. The tasters showcase different types of journaling, I supply templates to get people thinking about what might work for them, and everyone gets a free starter pack, including a dot grid notebook and fineliner. Attendees are then encouraged to have a play at home and come to follow up sessions to reflect and shar ..read more

Rhodia Goalbook Creation review #ad

When I went to the Stationery Show earlier this year, I spotted the new Rhodia Goalbook Creation on the ExaClair stand. I’ve worked with ExaClair for a couple of years now and have long been a fan of the Goalbook, so I was pleased to see new developments. Whereas the typical Goalbook features 90gsm white paper, the Creation features 120gsm black paper – and there are so many things you can do with it! I used it for my October #JournalInMyStyle challenge and played with a range of metallic pens and Gelly Rolls.   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Emma Farley (@acornishg ..read more
