Lifestyle, Weight Management and Ayurveda  For people with auto-immune conditions, such as lupus, what we eat and how we deal with everyday stress and emotions is a way to avoid and overcome flare-ups. That’s why I decided to write about the importance of weight management and our lifestyle. In the past 5000 years, Ayurveda has been about returning to the basics and reconnecting with mother Nature, which can provide us with all we need to survive and thrive. Its ideas and protocols have helped me immensely, from reducing my pain to getting off Benlysta injections and daily doses of Hydro ..read more

Have you ever thought about why you have lupus? Why do I have lupus? You probably already asked yourself that question … In my case, NO ONE in my family has lupus; I didn’t even know what lupus was. That part always confused me as we know lupus is a genetic disorder. Today, I can see I could not set boundaries when I was diagnosed with the condition, and every time I get a flare-up, the cause is the same – I crossed the line. In 2013 when I heard the diagnosis for the first time, I was working about 60 hours a week in a very stressful job in the IT space. My career success was more important t ..read more

How many times have you heard someone saying: Have you tried Yoga? – it might help with your pain. Because of that, I decided to write about the Eight Limbs of Yoga and how it can help us reconnect with ourselves and the divine. Above everything, it may allow us – lupies, to achieve a better quality of life.  The word Yoga can be interpreted as bind, yolk, or join. Yoga unifies to polarities Ha and Tha (Hatha) to provide a complete equilibrium of the alternating and dualistic forces of creation.  “But how can we join anything that has never been separated?” [Rama Vernon] Since bei ..read more

Ayurveda means Science of Life, which goes beyond the physical body’s health. According to the ancient scriptures, the mind creates an energy field that continuously reacts to itself and interacts with other beings.  I have not written a blog in a while as I have been studying a lot. With my new findings in Ayurveda and Yoga philosophies, I have been testing them on myself.  In the past, I looked at Ayurveda as an ancient Eastern medicine and yoga as a way to exercise and stretch my body. Oh boy, was I mistaken?  What are Gunas? There are three types of energies or gun ..read more

Do you know these 7 natural antibiotics? There’s no doubt that prescription antibiotics, such as penicillin, have made a profound difference in the treatment of otherwise fatal diseases since their discovery 80-odd years ago.   However, experts have shown that as many as 20% of patients treated with antibiotics experience adverse side effects that range from mild allergic reactions to severe gastrointestinal disturbances.   For me, as a lupus patient, an antibiotic is a no-no. It messes up my digestive tract, and I always need to do damage control after it.   Because of that, I ..read more
