T-Mobile and Google announced a surprise partnership on Monday, with the carrier ready to support various Google software and hardware products better than ever. The two companies reminded Android users that it was T-Mobile the first carrier to sell the first Google Android phone in the world back in 2008, the G1. T-Mobile said it’s currently the mobile operator with the most Android smartphone customers in the world, so the partnership with Google should come in handy. In practice, this means that T-Mobile will be relying on several Google products, including YouTube TV, that will receive pr ..read more

Android 12 might have spoiled a major Pixel 6 design upgrade

The first Android 12 Developer Preview hinted that Google’s upcoming Pixel devices might support two unlocking methods: Face unlock and fingerprint sensors. Current Pixel models either have a fingerprint sensor or come with 3D face unlock, but not both. Google did use its own Face ID alternative for the Pixel 4, but reverted to fingerprint scanning last year. The Pixel 5 is a mid-range phone that features a better design now that 3D face unlock and radar components have been removed from the top, but the handset also offers a design regression that we were surprised to see on a phone in 2020 ..read more

Sooner or later, every single smartphone vendor is going to jump on the foldable phone fad. Whether or not foldable phones are still a going concern in two or three years remains to be seen, but for now, everyone is giving the unique form factor a go. Within the next year or two, we even expect to see a foldable iPhone, but based on recent rumors, there’s a chance that Google could beat Apple to the punch with its own Pixel Fold. Late last month, rumors of a foldable phone designed by Google began popping up online. First up, a report from the Korean publication The Elec indicated that Google ..read more

Valentine’s Day 2020 will be remembered in the tech world as the day when Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip went on sale, and the new foldable sold out quickly. That’s not surprising given the fact that the clamshell handset is more affordable than alternatives, and it happens to be the world’s first phone to ship with bendable glass on top of the OLED screen. But February 14th, 2020 will also be remembered as the day we got our first look at a phone that’s not supposed to launch for another eight months. That’s the Pixel 5, which should be unveiled in October during a “Made by Google” hardware event ..read more

A few days before Samsung’s Galaxy S20 announcement event, Google also started teasing the Unpacked event, suggesting that it’ll show up on stage to announce some sort of new partnership. It had to be all connected to the Galaxy Z Flip, a new foldable Samsung was supposed to launch. Then came the Oscars, where Samsung actually showed off the unannounced clamshell device, complete with its new video chat in laptop mode feature. That was another indication that Google would help Android behave that way. It turns out that Google did show up at Unpacked. Google’s senior vice president of platform ..read more

We’ve come across rumors detailing Google’s so-called Pixel Watch with some regularity, but the company never made a Wear OS gadget of its own that could compete against the Apple Watch. Meanwhile, the Apple Watch kept growing, having virtually no rival in the market that stands a chance against the Apple Watch Series 5. But it turns out that Google did have a Pixel Watch ready back in fall of 2016 when it launched the first Pixel phones, but the company canceled the device in the 11th hour and never looked back. The leaks and rumors about Google’s forthcoming Pixel 4 smartphone series, which we expect to be unveiled in early October, have been coming at a steady clip lately, with our previous reporting rounding up everything from leaked images to details about the new rear camera setup, as well as the phones’ radar-based gestures. Based on new FCC listings that have just been discovered, meanwhile, it seems that at least four new handset models are set to be announced by Google soon, with the quartet presumably split somehow between Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL models. As expected, Google rolled out Android 10 on Tuesday for all Pixel devices. The release date wasn’t shared ahead of time, but Canadian mobile carrier Rogers let the secret slip by including the date in its public schedule of OS updates. The schedule listed the Pixel, Pixel 2, Pixel 3, and Pixel 3a, as well as their XL counterparts. Every phone was set to receive “Android Q” (which has since been renamed Android 10) on September 3rd. Google’s own smartphones are always the first to receive new versions of the Android mobile operating system, so if you own a Pixel, you can start downloading And ..read more

A Pixel-branded smartwatch from Google has been hoped-for and speculated about for a while now, with the rumor mill heating up yet again earlier this year in tandem with I/O 2019, where a number of Wear OS smartwatches were front and center. Likewise, the past year or so has seen the release of almost two dozen Wear OS smartwatches from myriad brands — again, all fueling rumors of when Google would get around to releasing a Pixel Watch. A newly published patent suggests that it actually might be sooner rather than later and reveals the design for what could be a Pixel Watch with a built-in ca ..read more

Remember that class action suit that Google settled over defective first-gen Pixel and Pixel XL phones? Well, it’s time to collect your dues, as Google owes you up to $500 for those faulty microphones that shipped inside early Pixel units. Getting that cash, however, might be more difficult.
