I have recently been to the Oral Kiely exhibition in Winchester, I found this exhibition really interesting looking at all the different patterns and pieces that she had created. I found it particularly interesting that she started off with making hats but realised that not all women wore hats so changed her focus to bag which where a lot more popular. I also realized while at this exhibition that there are some really strong links between Orla Kiely’s work and Mary Quant which I really liked ..read more

This week we went on a college trip to the Knitting and Stitching show we were able to do lots of artist research for our current projects. I thought that the show was really interesting and some of the artists really inspired me.  One artist that really inspired me was Daisy Collingridge. Her work as very interesting in the way she had layered her fabric creating amazing volume with fabric showing the human body and the shapes that make it up. I loved how I’m each piece Collingridge had focused on one colour and using different intensity’s which created more depth and interest wi ..read more

Last night I went to the fashion and textiles museum to listen to a talk from Jean Dawnays daughter who was speaking about her mother’s life and how she began modelling for Christian Dior. This talk was absolutely amazing as she shared the story with unseen pictures which she had discovered in her mother’s archive. Katya Galitzine explained how she had discovered a original Dior dress in her mother’s wardrobe after her death in 2016, this set off a spark which led her to discover more about her mother’s modelling career. Within Dawnay’s collection she discovered many photos that had be ..read more

Sonia Delaunay  Sonia Delaunay was a Ukrainian-born French artist who spent most of her life working in Paris, with her husband Robert Delaunay, together they cofounded the orphism art movement. A key feature of this art movement is the way of strong colours and geometric shapes, and this is a key feature in Delaunay’s illustrations. I really like Sonia Delaunay’s style of work because I think the simple geometric shapes are really interesting and stand out as the shapes really show the context of the illustration and clearly express the nature of the drawing. I think that th ..read more
