There are nearly 45 miles of nerves running through our bodies. The human hand contains about 100,000 nerves, of at least 20 different kinds and each fingertip has about 3,000 nerve receptors, primarily for pressure. Individual nerve receptors collect only the type of information they are designed to gather. For example, to pick up information about light touch from the world, Merkel cells have to be functioning and communicating with our ..read more

We speak often about the good fortune we experience working at Naked Prosthetics. How grateful we are for the meaningful work we do, the friends we make along the way, and the gift when those friends also become family. It is from this place of connection we are deeply saddened at the recent loss of a family member, Joe Yeske. As a beta tester and one of the first ThumbDriver users, Joe was instrumental in providing constructive feedback about the device, contributing to improve it for wearers who followed him. He was an advocate, an educator, and a motivator. He worked in tandem with us as we ..read more

Jeanie McGarvey came into the world with hand deformities. Her little fingers never fully developed due to bands wrapping around them before she was born. A sharp and inquisitive little girl, she adapted well. Blessed with lots of friends and a seemingly endless supply of energy, she never let her difference impede her. That’s not to say she wasn’t challenged, but she was motivated to accomplish the same things as her friends, as anyone. Fast forward to high school and young Jeanie began experiencing vicious hand cramps. Many times, a family member would need to massage her hands back into a s ..read more

We first “met” Mitch through a TikTok video he posted, in which he talks about his accident and his new prosthetic device. He was so confident, hopeful, and inspiring, and we just knew that he was someone we needed to get to know. “I was working for a company that built fences and decks. I was on light duty and was at the shop when the wood planer I was using started to malfunction.” Mitch opened the machine to inspect what was going on when it suddenly pulled his hand in, amputating his middle and ring finger. Several things started running through his head as he tried to remember what just h ..read more
