It’s been many moons in the making, sadly disrupted by a little-known thing called a global pandemic ..read more

Follow us on a journey of the traditional English Christmas: It all starts 1st December, when you pull back the door on your advent calendar and you know that it marks the beginning of a magical month. Advent calendars are reported to have originated in the early 1900’s, when you’d expect to find a small bible verse behind the cardboard flap, this then evolved into illustrations or pictures depicting a classic nativity scene and eventually into little chocolates on each day. The Good And Proper Way To Make A G&T
Mr Hobbs Gin
by Fern McCoy

At the risk of causing outright controversy, even we can admit, gin has totally and utterly exploded to the point of unrecognition. That’s why we think it’s important to take a step back, look at the facts and relay to your fine selves what the good and proper way to make a G&T is. This is done in stages, you won’t skip any step along the way, do-not-pass-go-do-not-collect-200. Glass Picking the glass, well this is a minefield in itself. Traditionalists will say that from the beginning of time, one has opted for the classic high-ball or Tom Collins, and that if it ain’t broke don’t fix it ..read more

October: Sloe But Steady Wins The Race
Mr Hobbs Gin
by Fern McCoy

October often conjures up images of plush green turning to brown and the leaves falling to make way for the Winter months. Sunrise is shrouded in mist, there’s a nip in the air that suggests nothing will survive the cold that’s in store. This is just not true though. There is one rather sumptuous, cobalt blue fruit plumping up nicely around this time of year and that is the magic of the sloe berry. With it’s jewel like features and inextricable links to our favourite juniper-based tipple, it’s time to welcome the sharp and sour blackthorn back into our lives but more importantly, into our hear ..read more

What made the Hobbs family best placed to release Henley’s first and only ‘Highly Spirited’ gin? The Hobbs family tree dates back to 1585 in Henley, and Hobbs of Henley- the boat hire business- was founded by Harry Hobbs (Jonathan’s great, great, grandfather) in 1870. Okay, speaking of boats then, imagine you are stranded out to sea for 24 hours in a little rowing boat and you had to pick 2 other ..read more
