This is a preventative Warning about customers who use Dynamics GP and have deployed corporate wide or on their SQL server the antivirus solution called Sentinel One.. This week I had not one but two cases where customers started reporting random strange behaviors in GP. The first customer started complaining about slow response or freezing clients as the users were working in the application thru a remote terminal server.. Initially I suspected an overload of the server’s resources as at some point there had been up to 30 users connected to the system with only 32Gb of RAM, but it turned out ..read more

HowTo: Extend the SOP Line Item comments to more than 4 lines in Word Templates ?
The Dynamics GP Geek Blog

Several years ago, my good friend David Musgrave wrote a blog post about how to extend the standard GP reports behind the default 4 lines of comments in the Line Items section (body) of the report. His example was based on the SOP Blank Invoice Form, but the logic could be applied to any other GP report that uses comment fields. David’s blog post covers every single step about how to modify the existing GP report with the Report Writer (RW) tool (which is available if you’re licensed with the Modifier Tools in GP), so I’m not going to write about this part as it is extensively covered already ..read more

Most of you might have still the ‘Connect’ pane enabled in their GP home page to get notifications about updates from the GP support team or when there is something important to tell.. However, today on June 19th, 2023, Microsoft had activated their new Dynamics 365 Community site, which was moved over the week-end from an old platform. The new one introduced a more modern and sleek UI, but the drawback of this move is that the ‘Connect’ pane now generates dozens of pop-ups when you login to your GP home page. One way to get rid of this (after you painfully clicked on the NO button a dozen ti ..read more

Is my Dynamics GP affected by the Log4j-Log4Shell vulnerability?

A recent security vulnerability (aka Zero-Day exploit) was reported by a company named Cyber Kendra that affects the Apache eco-system and its underlying Java component used for data logging. Many GP customers & clients started to worry about the vulnerability and if there GP environment could be prone to an attack from hackers due to that zero-day security flaw. The short answer is: No, it shouldn’t. To my knowledge none of the components used to setup GP, and in particular the Web Components, makes use of Java libraries or any Apache components. That being said, I’ve yet to see an offic ..read more

It’s been a while that the GP official documents page hasn’t been updated about the various version’s lifespan and end of life.. But, good news, it’s been updated today officially on the Microsoft site to reflect the latest product lifecycle, which shows that GP is far from being dead yet. The chart bellow shows that GP is getting support and development at least until 2028 and beyond, which should be reassuring to the existing customer base, and even some new customers still unsure if they should go full cloud or get a trusty on-premise ERP that has proven its capabilities over the past 25 ye ..read more

Another Windows Update that could get your GP client in trouble…

On March 10th some fellow GP consultants reported back issues from customers where Dynamics GP would all of a sudden print a black box in the place where there should be a graphical object (like Check signatures or a Company Logo on GP reports). It’s been confirmed the same day by Microsoft’s internal source that the issue was reported back to them and is caused by a Patch-Tuesday update that was deployed by Microsoft for Windows 10 & Windows 1903/1909 Server releases. The patches are known under the KB5000802 & KB5000808 and should you be affected by this issue, it is recommended f ..read more

Last Stretch to get your 1099’s right!

Many of my clients started early with their GP 2016 & 2018 Year-End updates to get all the new rules from IRS around the 1099 forms filling applied to their GP instance. And this is a time-sensitive issue, as those fillings are expected by the IRS by January 31st every year. Unfortunately, as it happens almost every year, Microsoft had to release a January Hot-Fix for GP as the November release sometimes reveals bugs that are discovered throughout the month of December when the bulk of updates take place. This year’s January Hot-fix includes a lot of small changes and some of them affectin ..read more

Here is a strange case that happened to a customer today which is using Management Reporter 2012 CU15 and GP 2015 (I know they are behind on an unsupported version, but that’s not part of the problem). The financial controller of the company generated a report in GP that they’ve been using for years now and nothing was changed in the definitions at all. The output result was letting them puzzled. As I logged remotely into the user’s computer to look at the issue, I was shown the related report definition and the used row definition as well, and there is where the situation became interesting ..read more

Get around the ActiveX error when trying to run IM map
The Dynamics GP Geek Blog

From time to time I get a call from customers that are using Dynamics IM (Integration Manager) in conjunction with their GP client. I recent call was about a new user that got setup on a brand new Windows 10 workstation and when trying to run the first time an integration about Sales Invoices in IM to GP, she got an error message and IM would stop there and don’t allow to go further (“The Destination could not be initialized due to the following problem: -Cannot create ActiveX component”). A quick search on the web returned quite a few results, but none of them were conclusive in this case. A ..read more
