The three biggest hurdles in Arteta’s rebuilding challenge

With just nine days to go until we open the new season against Liverpool, Arsenal are far from ready for the new season. Winning the FA Cup was deemed impossible during most of the past season. However, Mikel Arteta has managed to get us back on track and finish the season with some really unexpected silverware. Adding our 14th FA Cup to our trophy cabinet is absolutely fantastic. It means we will still have a spot in next season’s Europa League. Finishing eighth in the league on a record low number of points since the start of the division in the 1992/1993 season surely did not get us that. T ..read more

The first real test was upon us this Saturday. Liverpool away was on the menu. Anything could happen but we were surely not the favourites for that game. A 3-1 loss was the outcome. And although it still didn’t feel good to lose that, we can’t be too surprised. We are not fully ready We had a great start to the season. Winning the first two and signing some great players in the transfer window. But as I wrote last week we have a team still trying to find their way with so many new faces in the team. Also, the injuries to key players played us parts. It was clear to see that we are miss ..read more

Completion of Mustafi and Perez deals make for unusual deadline day

A strange transfer deadline day for Arsenal fans. Arsenal have officially announced the transfers of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Pérez yesterday. Although both deals – especially the Mustafi one – were expected for a long time already, it was great news to finally see the moves completed. Easy day ahead for Arsenal fans The fans seem to be very happy with Wenger spending money, but still being able to strike these deals for a relatively low cost compared to the figures that are payed elsewhere in the world. Also, the Arsenal fans seem to find it a bit strange that there is no nail-biting transf ..read more

“Arsenal in talks with Romelu Lukaku and Alexandre Lacazette”

After Jamie Vardy’s snub Arsenal are still searching for another striker to support Olivier Giroud up front next season. Although the names of both Romelu Lukaku and Alexandre Lacazette have been singing around for quite some time now, new reports suggest that at least one of these players will be signed. According to The Sun it’s Romelu Lukaku who Wenger would love to sign the most. If that won’t happen, his second choice is to sign Alexandre Lacazette. Obviously, Romelu Lukaku won’t need much introduction. He was at the European Championship with Belgium but they were eliminated by Wales in ..read more

An awesome transfer window and six from two, where will it take us?

Such a headline has not been linked with us for a very long time. It’s quite rare, just like me writing a blog on this website (sorry for that). The last time we won our first two league games was in 2009. Our only first-team signing that summer window was Thomas Vermaelen from Ajax. He was good, but for the rest it was not a transfer window as good as the most recent one. The last time I was really excited about an incoming transfer was when Mesut Özil signed in 2013. However, we lost our first game in that year. So, like I said it has been a while since we won our first two games and also ha ..read more

Unai Emery’s first month evaluated

After Arsène Wenger’s departure, Spanish manager Unai Emery took charge of the club. As I wrote in a previous post, ‘big shoes where to fill at the Emirates’. To take over from the club’s most successful ever manager is not a task everyone would be capable of doing. If Unai Emery is capable of doing so remains to be seen. His first month however, has shown a lot of change already. Departing players In terms of the first team squad, Santi Cazorla and Joel Campbell saw their contracts expire and have left the club. Yesterday it was officially confirmed that Jack Wilshere is also not signing a ne ..read more

How bad would Özil leaving really be?

I have so many questions since Mesut Özil‘s, and actually our whole team’s performance against Manchester City. The main one on everyone’s mind was of course: Why didn’t Wenger start with Alexandre Lacazette up front? Why are you not starting your record signing against probably the biggest team in the league right now? And when he did come on he showed his value immediately. Are Wenger and Lacazette having personal issues? How will it make him feel that he’s not playing? And now that we’re being heavily linked with Nabil Fekir, what will he tell his former Lyon teammate regarding joining us ..read more

Expectations until the transfer window closes

With once again a transfer deadline approaching, it has been quite clear to see that Wenger is removing dead wood from the first team selection. While Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolašinac joined the club, the Arsenal transfer news has mainly been about leaving players. Wojciech Szczesny left the club, along with Gabriel Paulista, John Toral, Yaya Sanogo and a number of other players. It is also expected that Lucas Perez might be on his way back to Spain to rejoin Deportivo. I actually think it is understandable though, and I even think more should be leaving. Here’s my view on the current fi ..read more
