Terra Nonno Revisited & Face-Off #1

Terra Nonno is located in Rosenhayn. I have been meaning to revisit Terra Nonno for some time and finally got the chance this past week. I love how they have expanded their tasting room, adding to their attractive indoor space with an expansion of their large covered patio. They are currently only open on the weekends (Fridays and Saturdays from 1-7 and Sundays from 1-6). However, they seem to have something going on each of those days. On Friday, they had a very good food truck (Got Pizza?) and live music (Britney Ewan). They also had a food truck on Saturday and Sunday and Live music on Sat ..read more

William Heritage Winery William Heritage is a well-known stop on Route 322 in Mullica Hill. Long before they started their winery they hosted a great farm market. Today they are one of the best wineries in the state and members of the Winemakers Co-Op. This organization consists of six great New Jersey wineries; William Heritage Winery, Unionville Vineyards, Beneduce Vineyards, Working Dog Winery, Hawk Haven Vineyards, and Auburn Road Vineyards. I have written about William Heritage many times in the past seven or eight years. They have consistently been one of the best in the state and one ..read more

Mudhen Brewing Company & Hawk Haven Vineyards

I am sorry I was unable to publish this post until today. I have been dealing with many issues related to my role as executor of the estate of a very close friend. I hope to be able to get back to my usual Sunday (or no later than Monday post soon). I have been wanting to visit Mudhen Brewing for quite some time. It is located in Wildwood. When I realized it was only a ten minute drive from Hawk Haven Vineyards, I figured we could do this when we picked up our allotment there. We decided to do so while doing a preview tasting (more about that later). The brewery has a large indoor and (weathe ..read more

Kennedy Cellars Winter 2024

Kennedy Cellars I had only visited Kennedy Cellars once before and it was a few years ago. Though they source most of their grapes from outside of the state of New Jersey, the wines are made on premises and are quite good. The grapes utilized for a couple of their wines are sourced locally, like their Chambourcin (from Monroeville). Besides offering some varietals you won’t be able to find at any New Jersey wineries (such as Grenache) and others that you will find, but they are also sourced outside of the state (such as Pinotage). Kennedy Cellars also has a new winemaker since I last visited ..read more

Tomasello Winery Winter 2024

Happy U.S. National Drink Wine Day! Tomasello Winery I wanted to revisit Tomasello Winery for a number of reasons. While their Palmaris label brought the winery to an another level, they also offer some wines that you may not see anywhere else. For instance, they are the only winery in the state that I know of, that offers a Rkatsiteli and an Aromella. I’ll elaborate on both of these below. I have previously tasted and enjoyed their Rkatsiteli, but it has been quite awhile. I have never had an Aromella prior to our tasting last week. Tomasello Winery has fairly recently entered the hard cider ..read more

Cafe le Jardin & NJ (and French) Wine

Last week, I posted about our wonderful visit to Red White & Brew Beer Company in Audubon. Today I am writing about our visit that followed-a very short walk away-to Cafe le Jardin. This excellent French restaurant is owned by the same folks who own June, a French restaurant in Collingswood. We have been wanting to try that restaurant for some time. However, when I read about the brewery and how close they are to Cafe le Jardin, it was a no brainer. It’s hard to beat enjoying craft beer, wine, and French food all in one trip and only a half hour from home! Cafe le Jardin Cafe le Ja ..read more

The Red White & Brew Beer Company

The Red White & Brew Beer Company is located in Audubon. I was curious to visit for a number of reasons. The list of beers sounded varied and interesting and it is a short walk to another place I’ve been wanting to check out-Cafe le Jardin, a wonderful French restaurant. I’ll have a lot more to say about that visit in my next post. My memories of Audubon were largely from my high school years-walking to the shopping center to pick up a new album at Korvettes or to play tennis across the street from there. There were two outdoor courts-the only outdoor courts within a few miles from Bellma ..read more

Flying Fish Brewing Co. & My NJ Wine of the Week

I have been wanting to visit Flying Fish Brewing Co. for a long time. I remember enjoying their beers years ago. I had to buy them at Total Wine because they did not have a tasting room until more recently. It is one of New Jersey’s oldest operating craft breweries and they have made some award winning beers. On Wednesday, I finally got to visit their tasting room in Somerdale. They still make great beers and their tasting room has a small bar area with several seats at the bar and lots of tables and chairs with lots of room for live music in the tasting room. Live music was something that un ..read more

My Favorite NJ Red Blends

Wine blends are a great way to: 1. Introduce you to a grape you may not be familiar with; 2. Sometimes improve upon a stand-alone varietal that had a challenging year; 3. Potentially save the patron and the winery money. Excellent blends often sell for much less money than single varietals. It has been estimated that red blends sell more in volume than some popular single varietals like Pinot Noir and there are many well-known red blends such as Bordeaux-style blends and Super Tuscan blends. The former was named for the region in France. If produced outside of this region, they should be refe ..read more

Plagido’s Winery Winter 2024

It had been too long since our last visit to Plagido’s, located in Hammonton. So my wife and I had some business to take care of nearby (and a visit to Bagliani’s Market was also on the agenda). On Thursday, we managed to take care of our business, stock up on some culinary delights, and taste eight very good dry wines. We decided to do our tasting inside, as it was pretty nippy outside and we were the only patrons when we arrived. The owners, Ollie Tomasello and his wife were the only staff observed. Ollie (no relation to the other Tomasello winery owners in Hammonton) is the winemake ..read more
