The BeeKeepers Honey

There are so many options out there when you are choosing your honey – Raw, Pure, Creamed, etc you can wonder what exactly the difference is and be left feeling very confused as to what is the best honey to buy. In many cases, honey may be more than one of these things, but they do each mean something different. Pure Honey: Our honey is “pure honey” as you are getting 100% honey, without any other ingredients (sugar or corn syrup, which is sometimes added to industrial honey overseas to reduce costs). Raw Honey: The difference between raw honey and pure honey is that in addition to b ..read more

REAL, RAW HONEY CRYSTALLISES AND CAN GO HARD, AND THAT'S A GOOD THING................
The BeeKeepers Honey
by Susan Smith

Real, raw honey crystallises and that's a good thing as it indicates the honey is pure, raw and unpasteurised meaning the beneficial properties of the honey are firmly in tact.  Depending on the floral source of the honey, it can also go hard (especially in cooler weather) and this is also a natural part of the crystallisation process.  Honey Dew (Beechwood Runny Honey) is the only honey we produce that will not naturally crystallise, as it is not made from the nectar of flowers.  Some beekeepers produce honeys, i.e. Manuka, which may also contain alot of Honey Dew (or sugar syr ..read more

WHY DOES HONEY VARY ON COLOUR AND TASTE
The BeeKeepers Honey
by Eve Johnson
5y ago
The colour and flavour of honey differs depending on the nectar source (the blossoms) visited by the honey bees.  Honey colour ranges from nearly colourless to dark brown, and its flavour varies from delectably mild to distinctively bold, depending on where the honey bees buzzed. Honey is produced in every region of New Zealand, but depending on floral source location, certain types of honey are produced only in a few regions such as Honey Dew. Honey also vary in the size of the crystals formed.  And crystallised honey tends to set a lighter/paler colour than when liquid. This is since glucose ..read more

BEESWAX - SO MANY USES!
The BeeKeepers Honey
by Susan Gill

Beeswax is a natural wax that the honey bees produce. Beeswax is one of the most well-known and commonly used bee byproducts. Bees construct their honeycomb by producing this wax – a complex mix of over 250 compounds. Each worker bee has eight abdominal wax glands and creates the building material by mixing wax from her glands with her saliva. The resulting honeycomb keeps eggs and larvae safe and dry and protects stored honey from the cold and wet.   Beeswax has been used since prehistory as man's first plastic, as a lubricant and waterproofing agent, as a polish for wood and leather and for ..read more
