No more roaming fees and searching for Wi-Fi hotspots when you travel. One of the most frequently asked questions by travellers and digital nomads on social media is about the most affordable and convenient international Wi-Fi, internet, and sim card solutions. Even using your phone when travelling internationally for business presents the same problem. As travellers ourselves, we know how expensive roaming is, and how access to the internet is not always possible, especially in more rural areas and underdeveloped countries. We would usually buy a new SIM card for each country, but it also be ..read more

“I really want to go for a holiday to Serbia!” ... said no one ever! Ok, some people do because they know ;-). Do you even know where Serbia is? And no, I don’t mean that place in Russia called Si-be-ri-a. Serbia is in Eastern Europe, bordered by Croatia, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria. If you don’t know about the place, the name probably conjures up visuals of a war-torn, communist country with dreary and bland square, beige apartment buildings. But I’ll have you know, Serbia, and its capital Belgrade is actually beautiful. The bohemian cobblestone streets are lined with bustling cafes; the ..read more

7 Things you didn't know about Uruguay: a country of firsts

Uruguay, officially known as the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, is a small country in South America, bordering massive Brazil in the North and North-East and Argentina across the river on the west. This country is often overlooked by travellers in South America because of the beaches and Carnival in Brazil or the Tango in Argentina, not to mention all the great wonders of the rest of the South American countries. We however absolutely loved this country. It has something completely different to offer travellers with its modern capital and beautiful beaches. You can feel the liberal and unconse ..read more

One day in Kas, Turkey

Still on a mission to find turquoise blue waters and white sandy beaches, we decided to go to a little town in Turkey on the Turquoise Coast. A short drive by bus from Fetiye, we decided on ,Kaş along the Mediterranean coast due to a hugely popular beach cove that is recommended by all guide books and blogs. Unfortunately, Kaputaş Beach is still about a 15-minute drive away from the town of Kaş, and without a car, you still need to take another bus back (towards ,Kalkan) to get to the beach. It is also packed with locals and tourists alike, so we didn’t go. Nonetheless, we were in Kaş for one ..read more

To continue our story of ,,a series of unfortunate events in Colombia, the issues didn't end there. Further proof that it is difficult to travel on a South African passport. Further reading: Day 280: a series of unfortunate events in Colombia We arrived in Panama, and were completely surprised by this country - it was nothing we expected! Super modern, and expensive since the official currency is the Dollar (but we knew this), but it has a nice atmosphere about it. We didn't plan to stay long, as we just went there to get out of Colombia in a rush, and book our tickets out to South-East Asia ..read more

Day 280: A series of unfortunate events in Colombia

No, Colombia is not the super dangerous, violent country that it once was. But like most countries, including South Africa, theft, pick-pocketing and robbery still happens - and tourists are the targets. So this post is about something much milder, but it can have a significantly negative effect on your life and your travels. Our bank cards and cash were stolen from our locker in the hostel we were volunteering at in Taganga. So I know, many of you think that this is not a big deal, but in actual fact, as South African citizens, this was a crisis that lead to a series of very frustrating and ..read more

A must-see attraction in Istanbul, is the Topkapi Palace. Sultan Mehmed II, conqueror of Constantinople, constructed this palace from 1460 to 1478. It was altered many times over the years. In the early 1850"s, the sultans moved to Dolmabache Palace on the Bosphorous, as Topkapi could no longer satisfy the requirements for state ceremonies and protocol. In 1924, after the abolishment of the Ottoman empire, the palace became the first official museum in Turkey. Even after the move to the new palace, Topkapi still housed the royal treasure, the imperial archives as well as the Holy Relics of the ..read more

Turkey, land of the Sultan’s and Ottoman Empire. We never planned on visiting Turkey. Due to several issues including our bank cards getting stolen in Colombia, being given the wrong Colombian visa (blog post coming), an endless search for cheap flights from South America, and a search for flights that didn't require a $150 in transit visa for a 2 hour layover (Yes, the joys of travelling with a South African passport), we ended up in Turkey on our way to South East Asia. And what a pleasant surprise it was! From the beautiful city of Istanbul that never ever sleeps, the museums and mosques a ..read more
