Sometimes, you browse all the streaming services and you still can't find a British TV show you feel like watching. For those days, it's always nice to have a few good movies on your watch list. In this post, we'll take a look at some lesser-known British films we've enjoyed recently.

The idea of setting a murder mystery in a lovely British (or Irish) village is not a new one. For almost as long as there have been mystery stories, there have been mysteries set in beautiful, rural locations, especially in England. Their appeal has endured over more than a century now, but not everyone is a fan. In fact, some people are dismissive of the genre, calling them unrealistic and twee and generally failing to understand why some of us love them so much. To that end, we wanted to take a moment or two to celebrate what makes these vill ..read more

Writer, actor, director, and producer Mark Gatiss has a new project on the horizon, and we're excited. Best known for playing Mycroft Holmes in the BBC's Sherlock, writing episodes of Doctor Who, and heading up the A Ghost Story for Christmas project in recent years, his latest project will see him writing and starring in a new period mystery.

BritBox and Acorn TV are two of the best sources of British TV shows in the US, but there are more than a dozen that routinely serve up new releases from the UK. To help you navigate the options, we like to make it a little easier each month by looking at which brand new shows are premiering across the major US streaming services. By that we mean only those shows which:
Had their original UK premiere within the last year or so
Are showing in the US for the first time on a streaming service

In British TV circles, it seems like 90% of the focus is always on the most recent releases and a handful of classics (think Midsomer Murders or Keeping Up Appearances). Though understandable, it means a lot of wonderful shows end up overlooked – especially those that came out before streaming made widespread international distribution standard.

The UK may not be known for romance (“lie back and think of England”, anyone?), but clearly someone has figured it out, given that new baby Brits are born on a fairly regular basis.
More seriously, romantic British films have it all – gorgeous scenery, dashing but aloof male leads, and of course, the accents. Most of them, anyway. We've yet to see a great, sweep-you-off-your-feet British romance with a thick-accented Scouser in the leading male role (but we'd absolutely watch that if someone made it).

April is nearly here, and Acorn TV has announced their April Acorn TV schedule – along with a brand new look and logo. Below, we take a look at what's coming in the month to come.
It's also worth noting that they've announced a May 13 premiere date for the third season of Harry Wild, so if you're on the fence about keeping your subscription for the next month or two, that might be enough to tip the balance for some.

Many of us use Acorn TV and BritBox to watch British shows, but too many people overlook the shows available to stream on Amazon when you have a Prime Membership. Though they've moved a lot of the shows over to Freevee in recent years, they still have a number of good ones on offer.
A couple quick notes on this list:
Amazon doesn't always give you EVERY season of a show. For newer shows, the most recent series or two may be in exclusive contracts with other services.
Please note: availability of any of the shows below can change at any time. A ..read more
