None Is Righteous

“O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not hear? Or cry to you “Violence!” and you will not save? Why do you make me see iniquity, and why do you idly look at wrong? Destruction and violence are before me; strife and contention arise. So the law is paralyzed, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; so justice goes forth perverted” (Habakkuk 1:2-4 ESV). The last few weeks have been heavy on my heart. There seems to be a lot of hate being spread between anyone and everyone. This fight between good and evil; right and wrong. Fing ..read more

God is Faithful
TRUENORTH

We were made to seek out hope, to find the answers to the questions of things we can only hope for. Hebrews 11:1-3 tells us, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith, we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” Before setting out to write this I was in a class full of people who believe we can change the world, not just whimsically believe that they can, but fully hope through that they can change the world. Their faith ..read more

Longing For The Bride
TRUENORTH

The sun had yet to rise as I heard the pitter-patter of adolescent feet scampering across the hardwood floor. I desperately attempted to block it out as I lay covered in my borrowed sheet on the living room couch when suddenly the pitter-patter stopped and exhausted breathing ensued above my shrouded head. The hope of revisiting my dreamy state had faded, all I could now do was pull back the bedsheet to behold the source of the early morning chaos. Inches from my face was a five-year-old little girl staring at me wide-eyed, far more awake than I could ever be. “You’re getting married today ..read more

Unemployment

You know that feeling? When you have too much time on your hands? You sit down. Scroll through your phone. Check the clock. Stand up. Walk around. Check the news. Stare at the wall. Check job postings. The past month has been filled with just that. At first, it filled me with this sense of missed purpose and lack of motivation. After those weeks of unemployment, I can now say that those weeks led to a newfound insight that I am itching to share with you all. During those few weeks, I thought about anything and everything. I thought about the world. I thought about different careers. I thought ..read more

Journey To The End

Have you ever found yourself sitting at the end of the day asking, “God, where are you? Lord, why is life so hard right now? Where is this life of joy and happiness you've promised me? Why am I still in a world of hurt?” I think we forget that we don't get heaven the moment we begin walking with The Lord, ironically it often feels as though we’ve entered into a world of hell. I know I’ve found myself living according to God’s calling on my life, reading, doing and teaching the Word, yet finding myself asking, “God, where are you?” In those moments I never truly believe God has abandoned me, ho ..read more

Watch What Happens

“Nice watch!” I had just found my seat in the lobby of a hiring agency and wasn’t trying to start a conversation with anyone. I was exhausted, having spent the last month or so hunting for a full-time job, filling out countless applications, and painstakingly running around town in an effort to land a job that would provide some sense of financial security in preparation for married life. I finally had a break amidst the craziness to just sit down, turn my mind off, and rest. That’s when the stranger next to me brought an end to my solitude, doing it in a way I couldn’t even be offended by — t ..read more

University of Hopelessness (REDUX)

If you’re reading this I assume you’ve had a chance to read my latest essay on the decline of mental health among young people due to the lack of hope across college campuses today. I remember being inspired to dive into this topic after a late night FaceTime date with my fiancé who continued to touch on the lack of hope she felt among her fellow students while attending Arizona State University. I immediately began researching this idea of hopelessness to see if it was in fact a universal trait on college grounds. I hoped to find that this sense of hopelessness was confined to secular univer ..read more

In a season of experimentation and discovery as new horizons begin to unfold, one would expect the lives of young people to be filled with joy, wonder, and hope. For the very first time they have gained mastery over their lives, and have been given the opportunity to blaze new trails into the unknown as they discover their passions and grasp onto the careers and elements which will shape them forever forward. This dauntingly wonderful time of life would appear to be one filled with hope; however, the hopeful generation of young people are continuing to find hope lacking — but why? The discussi ..read more

The Church vs. Generation "Why?"
TRUENORTH

In a culture of inclusiveness, international connectivity through social media, and a plethora of mediums by which to engage in contemporary worship and community, churches today are losing young people more than ever before. As the cultural paradigm has shifted with the rise of the LGBT movement, a graspable worldwide community, and postmodernistic ideas infiltrating every area of life, churches have seen a growing demographical gap in their congregations. Where are the young people? Where is the representation from the up and coming generation to be found? The fact is, Millennials are leavin ..read more

The Zeal Of Redemptive Love
TRUENORTH

Difficulties are not the failure of God's plan, they do not reveal His lack of attention and love for you, no, they are the signs and zeal of His redemptive love  In the last couple of weeks, I have been constantly asked the question, "Why are you so calm in the midst of all of this sickness?" My answer to all of you would be, "Because I know who my God is." In moments of difficulty, I know of His undying and sacrificial love, I know of His undeserving mercy and grace, and I know of His sovereignty. I know that He does not desire to see His people suffer, but He desires to see us be transforme ..read more
