McCartney Times

Guns N’ Roses weren’t ones to take shit from anybody. If there was anyone on the Sunset Strip who complained that they made garbage music or said that Axl Rose sounded like a wounded rottweiler when he sang, they would probably never get to the end of the sentence before they got knocked on their ass. They were still a brotherhood in the early days, but they may have been paying more attention when George Harrison called them out. From day one, Rose seemed to want respect as a classic rock star. He may have spoken his mind a bit too much when making albums like Appetite for Destruction, but t ..read more

The Beatles are indisputably the biggest band of all time. They spent the 1960s revolutionising production and paved the way for the music industry as we know it today, all while navigating Beatlemania and penning some of the greatest songs of all time. There’s no disputing that The Beatles produced some extraordinary music. In fact, it’s fair to say they crafted historic, world-changing music that permanently reshaped the landscape of rock and roll. However, given the breadth and diversity of their discography, it’s also inevitable that there are some songs that fall short and end up getting skipped. Everyone has their favourites and least favourites within the catalogue, including the members themselves.By the time The Beatles called it quits in 1970, they were utterly unrecognisable from the group they started out as. When a young scamp named Paul McCartney joined John Lennon in his Merseyside skiffle band The Quarrymen in 1957, not even in his wildest dreams could comprehend the level of success he would achieve in just a few short years. Lennon changed the name of his group to The Beatles in 1960, inspired by Buddy Holly’s The Crickets, as a catchier name to show they meant business. The Beatles climbed the rungs to stardom rapidly between 1960 and 1963, a period that saw the initial five-piece with Peter Sutcliffe become a four-piece, with McCartney on bass, Ringo Starr on drums, George Harrison on lead ..read more

McCartney Times

The Beatles succeeded for countless reasons, but their chemistry as four instrumentalists had a lot to do with it. For the vast majority of their songs, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, with some production expertise from George Martin, made the magic in the studio without any outside help. On occasion, they looked for guest performers who could augment their sound. Some of these folks were relatively unknown outside their fellow musicians, while others were stars in their own right. Here are five special guests who made a big difference on specific songs of the ..read more
