As kids we’re more concerned with finding a place at the lunch table than a place in the world. We befriend the girls on our lacrosse team or the boys in our Boy Scout troop. We play with the neighbor’s kids because our parents didn’t let us wander too far from home. Our teachers didn’t let us choose who we could sit next to, but you bet we were talking to whoever it was. During childhood, our friends are usually the kids physically closest to us. We choose convenience over connection. Once we become adults, we're more sure of ourselves and more specific about the people we want around us. Un ..read more

From the outside looking in, I had it all in high school. I was a three season athlete, with friends and good grades. But internally I was struggling and there was one person who got me through it; my guidance counselor. She was more than a mentor and friend, she was a light in my life. She was one of the kindest, most selfless souls alive. She died suddenly at 55 years old. When we lose someone too wonderful too soon, it is impossible to cope. I spent more time trying to make sense of her untimely death than I did grieving. It wasn't until I turned to comedian Jim Carrey, that I discovered a ..read more

Every situation in life can be viewed as an obstacle or an opportunity. The trick to deciphering between the two comes from prioritizing your happiness. Happiness is a choice and if you choose to focus on the obstacles instead of the opportunities, you will be unhappy. When you remember that you control your happiness, you'll master the art of seeking opportunities instead of dwelling on obstacles. This doesn't mean you become a magical fairy godmother who *poofs* the obstacles away. You can still identify obstacles in your life without dwelling on them. Here's an example: How I Distinguished ..read more

The human experience is an ironic masterpiece of joy & pain. Most of us would count pain as a shitty part of the experience, but when we take a closer look, it’s clear that there’s a lesson behind every physical and emotional pain we suffer. Today, I’d like to discuss suffering and how it connects us. Trust me, it’s difficult to find the pros of pain when you’re head first in the toilet, but I believe suffering brings us closer to others, ourselves & God. Like most experiences in life, there is a lesson to be learned and a connection to be made. So indulge me. Continue reading. Connec ..read more

,You’d think that being quarantined at home would be every writer’s dream. We have an out to escape our day jobs that we often use as an excuse for why our book isn’t complete. We have no Margarita Mondays to attend or people to distract us. With the usual obstacles that prevent us from writing removed, we have every opportunity to prosper. Perfect, right? Well just like our current state of quarantine, it depends on how you view it. I’d been working on a kaveman article on and off for a couple weeks pre quarantine. It was about how I grew during college and evolved while studying abroad. The ..read more
