As a Los Angeles newborn photographer, I often get the question: Is my baby too old for newborn photos?
Most newborn photographers, myself included, typically photograph newborn portraits in the first two weeks of baby’s life. This is because newborns at this age sleep more deeply and are more comfortable in curled-up poses. You can read about the ideal window for newborn photos in this blog post: the best time to photograph your newborn.
So, if your baby is older than two weeks, you might wonder… Is my baby too old for newborn photos?
The short answer is “no.” There is plenty of tim ..read more

After going years as a Los Angeles maternity photographer without this request, I’ve had three clients in the last two months wanting to wear their Calvin Kleins for part of their maternity session. Since this iconic 90s trend is obviously making a comeback, I thought I’d share these images from my recent Calvin Klein maternity photo shoots, all photographed in my Los Angeles studio.
The 90s Calvin Klein underwear is back!
As someone who loves simple, timeless maternity photography, I can definitely get on board with this resurgent trend. Although, I have to say that I came of age in the 90s ..read more

What is a a baby plan?
Whether they call it a baby plan, baby’s first year, bump to baby, or – like me- the first year collective, most newborn photographers offer a bundle of sessions to document your baby’s first year milestones.
For example, my baby plan – The First Year Collective – includes a newborn session, sitter session, one-year session and optional maternity session.

I photographed Molly’s session in her beautiful Los Angeles home. If you aren’t familiar with her blog, you should definitely check out the gorgeous remodeling and decorating she’s done.
Like any family session, this one was wild and wooly… in the best sort of way. We made sure to get a gorgeous family portrait and a great image of the kids together and then we let things get wild. Izzy was at the perfect “sitter session” age ..read more

As a maternity photographer, of course I will tell you that a maternity photo shoot is worth the effort and expense. But, before I tell you all the reasons why a maternity photo shoot is worth it, I have a confession to make: I didn’t do a maternity photo shoot for either of my pregnancies.
At the time, a maternity session felt like a luxury I didn’t need. Besides, I was busy with work, tired, and convinced I’d look awkward or cheesy in the photos.
Now that my kids are 10 and 13 I regret that decision not to have maternity portraits taken.
There are many reasons why maternity portraits are wor ..read more

As a Los Angeles newborn photographer, I know firsthand the value of investing in professional newborn photos. But, as a mother of two, I also understand the hesitation that new parents may feel when it comes to spending money on photography. It’s easy to think of photography as an extra or luxury item and question, “are newborn photos worth it?”
I would argue that there are few things more valuable to invest in.
The newborn stage is fleeting

The best way to document your baby’s first year
There is no other time in your child’s life in which they change so much and so quickly as the first year. Your baby is only a baby for one short year and if you blink you might miss it. The photos you snap with your phone are great, but I offer the First Year Collective to my clients who want to document their baby’s first year and make sure they don’t miss any milestones.
