Why Churches Should Welcome LGBT Christians (and non-Christians)

We have probably all heard stories of churches that are not welcoming to LGBT people or exclude us altogether, and many of us have experienced that hurt. But they really should be welcoming. Mathew 10:40-42 says: “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I ..read more

God Literally Created Us – LGBT & All!

I have recently had a few unpleasant comments on our Instagram page that had to be deleted and one really struck me. It was someone who said that there is no place in God’s Kingdom for the LGBT community. It struck me because it’s hateful and very wrong, but something that I’ve heard many times before. I blocked the individual and deleted the comment, as you might expect. The truth is that God literally made us. Those of us who have experienced growing up LGBT know with absolute certainty that we cannot help being the way we are. We know that this is how we were born and that it is fixed, lik ..read more

We Are Loved By God

This is one my favourite Christian songs at the moment and I wanted to share it with you because it speaks to us about God’s love and how we often see ourselves differently to how God sees us especially as LGBT Christians (or evn non-Christians!). Growing up gay in a Christian family I allowed myself to become convinced that God couldn’t love me. That pushed me away from church and away from faith. In fact, all of us have fallen short of God’s perfect standards but none of us need to feel ashamed. He sent his son, Jesus, to die on a cross to take the blame for everything that we do wrong. As a ..read more

My friend sent me this article written by a conservative (American) non-LGBT Christian who has changed his mind about homosexuality being sinful. I think he makes some very good points. He is very honest, which cannot have been easy as he admits hurting his friends. Very brave article and very encouraging. Read: I Was Wrong About Homosexuality ..read more

10 Reasons God Loves Gay Christians

I wanted to share this wonderful article where Mathew Vines lists 10 reasons that God Loves Gay Christians. I am particularly struck by point 9 which is that humans are relational. Genesis 1:26 says that God made us in his image. God is relational and so are we, literally created to love and share our lives with others. Obviously some people are called to celibacy, certain Priests for example, but I don’t believe that it’s right to say (as some try to argue) that all LGBT people should be celibate. That’s not how God made us. God made us relational – relational to each other and relational to ..read more

I have just stumbled upon this Bible verse and although I am familiar with it, I am kind of floored by it. I’ve realised that to me, this verse proves my assertion that being gay or LGBT is not a sin. If it was a sin then it follows that my homosexuality is a constant temptation, but I am completely sure that I have no choice in being gay. So that would be a temptation that I cannot withstand – something that this verse makes clear that God will not allow. So either the Bible is wrong or being gay is not a sin. Of course I knew that already but it’s brilliant when the Bible confirms what I be ..read more

God Is Love

This Bible verse means alot to me because it commands us to love one another. But the verse says a bit more than that when I stop to think about it. “For Love is of God and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God”. That says to me that all love comes from God. It doesn’t say that some love is of God. It doesn’t say heterosexual love is of God. It says that LOVE is of God. If we love one another, that is from God. Wether that’s loving strangers, loving friends and family or loving our partners, that love has come from God and should be celebrated. If, on the other hand we cause d ..read more

John 3:16 is probably one of the most recognisable Bible verses. I was taught it by my parents when I was a child, probably because it is also such an important Bible verse in that it sums up the gospel in a couple of sentences. The Gospel is that God loved us so much that he sent his son Jesus to take the blame for our sin, so that whoever believes will be forgiven and saved. Notice what it doesn’t say. It doesn’t exclude anyone. It is anyone who believes. Not any straight person, not any good person, not the any devout religious people who know the Bible backwards. It is simply everyone tha ..read more
