In today’s digital landscape, businesses are increasingly grappling with the repercussions of cybercrime. Cyberattacks are escalating in frequency, and the resulting damage is growing at an unprecedented rate. Among the most significant vulnerabilities for organizations are their passwords, which serve as the entry point into an account and, consequently, represent the weakest link in their security infrastructure. The initial step towards safeguarding this vulnerability involves the establishment of robust passwords. The most effective way to ensure this is by implementing a stringent passwo ..read more

Microsoft 365 administrators have various roles and tasks that they need to manage to ensure that the organization runs smoothly. Authorization concepts that are familiar from the on-premise world cannot be replicated 1:1 in the Microsoft Cloud. In order to ensure data security, several steps need to be implemented. These are as follows:   PIM: With the Privileged Identity Management (PIM) function, Microsoft 365 offers the option of assigning predefined administrator rights to time-limited and only explicitly authorized persons. In order for such roles to be assigned to the corresponding ..read more

Microsoft 365 networking – Proxy Endpoints

For larger environments and/or infrastructures that have more complex network architectures, it can be important to split up the topic-related endpoints and distribute them to dedicated proxies. With Microsoft 365 (as well as other Microsoft services such as Azure), the “best practice” statement is to define local brake out points so that the corresponding services can really function and be used optimally. Recently, I had to create a corresponding endpoint list that serves the relevant services. I have now decided to share this (non-exhaustive) list on my blog. Disclaimer: This list is not co ..read more

Tools (and Migration Playbook) for Mail migration

Foreword In this article, I describe one (of several) ways in which a mailbox migration can be carried out from, for example, an old on-premise infrastructure to a new Exchange online migration. In my practical example, the two sites are on different tiers, and have no connection to each other. Once again, this is one variant of how such a migration can be carried out. However, some of the points are fundamentally important for each variant and are crucial for the migration to be carried out successfully. As a final point regarding this article: I have deliberately left out some detailed topic ..read more

There are various reasons why the Outlook cache needs to be deleted. One of the most common reasons is after a migration, for example to Exchange online. The Outlook cache can be deleted in various ways. However, as an administrator, we are interested in doing this centrally from one place. In this article, I would like to point out two ways and describe a third way in more detail, as a kind of documentation.   Variant 1: (The Sneaker) If the Outlook cache only needs to be deleted for individual users, this can be done with one of my scripts. The script with the name: ClearOutlookCache_M ..read more

From time to time I get requests from customers for the following scenario: The customer basically has a hybrid infrastructure, must (or wants to) continue to operate Exchange on-premise. However, the customer wants to protect the Outlook Web App (OWA) of the on-premise messaging infrastructure with Multi Factor. On the one hand, this can be easily implemented with AD FS. In most cases, however, customers do not want to use AD FS (otherwise there is no longer any use). After initial discussions, the desire for conditional access with various policies usually arises. This whole process then usu ..read more

With the recent General Available of New Teams on Mac, there are changes that impact the management of some tenants regarding new Teams and Microsoft Teams classic (formerly Microsoft Teams).   Users can switch seamlessly between New Teams and Microsoft Teams classic via an in-app toggle. However, there are effects on tenant management that administrators should be aware of. The first change is the bundle ID for Microsoft Teams, which looks as follows:The bundle ID for Microsoft Teams classic remains the same: com.microsoft.teams The bundle ID for Microsoft Teams (work or school) is: com ..read more

Microsoft recently announced that the Microsoft Graph API for Microsoft Teams live events will be terminated for commercial customers. The reason for this is that Microsoft will be focussing on the Townhall functionality in the future. This is more or less the replacement for Live Events. Users who still use this API have until spring 2024 at the latest to adapt the corresponding configurations. (Officially) The Teams Live Events functionality will then be switched off at the end of September 2024. The replacement with the Townhall feature will allow new live events to be created on the meetin ..read more

MSB365 | The Microsoft Blog

Microsoft is becoming more and more a telephony provider. With the possibility of building a call centre with native tools (i.e. without 3rd party tools), Microsoft has taken another big step towards playing in the top 3 league of telephony solutions. Microsoft Teams has been offering the possibility to build call center solutions for some time. For this purpose, there are 3rd party tools such as Luware, which have specialized in this area, among others. To stay with the example of Luware: This Swiss company uses the Teams Chanel technology, combined with Microsoft Power Apps, PowerBi and othe ..read more
