Head Automatica share first new song in 18 years, “Bear the Cross”
Alternative Press Magazine

Head Automatica, led by Glassjaw frontman Daryl Palumbo, returned last fall for an epic reunion tour, and today they’ve shared a moody industrial-rock song, “Bear The Cross,” which marks their first new music since 2006’s Popaganda. “To me, ‘Bear The Cross’ is both a logical and unexpected evolution of Head Automatica’s sound,” Palumbo says. “The sounds and ideas are very familiar but age undeniably changes your personality, creative leanings, and approach. There is an urgency and boldness in what you feel empowered to produce after a certain point. ‘Bear The Cross,” and our new material on th ..read more

Alternative Press Magazine
by Neville Hardman

Following the release of last year’s Toxic Positivity, the Used are back with a new B-sides album, MEDZ, which was written during the same sessions between 2022 and 2023.  The album includes the previously heard singles “Fuck You” and “People Are Vomit,” and now the post-hardcore vets are sharing the title track, which reflects Bert McCracken’s murky headspace at the time of writing through its buoyant rhythm and bleak lyrics (“Everything I touch turns to dust/Everything I feel is way too much/Sometimes I think I’m born for failure”). “[Toxic Positivity] is quite tough for me to listen to ..read more

Lip Critic’s transcendent punk chaos
Alternative Press Magazine

I first saw Lip Critic at Hotel Vegas in Austin. Off the bat, it gave me anxiety. And I was instantly, strangely enamored by it. The small room was packed out, the air hot, dense, salty — the aggregate of bodies moved in a swarm, bouncing off each other — while they played. The venue was pure, controlled chaos. Allured by their disarming erraticism, elbowing in closer, I got a peek of the maestro controlling said chaos, whomever was guiding the buzzing room into an increasingly intense frenzy. There wasn’t one conductor, though. It was a foursome — two samplers bowed down over a table embellis ..read more

In April, Louisville garage-rock crew White Reaper and San Francisco punks Spiritual Cramp announced a joint two-song seven-inch, and today that project is available on DSPs. The collaboration was initially previewed with Spiritual Cramp’s “Whatever You Say, Man” — a gloomy rocker about the monotony of depression — and now you can hear White Reaper’s contribution, “Shimmy.” Written during the beginning of pandemic lockdowns, the song is a moshy, fast-moving ride that you can probably expect the band to play when they hit the road with Spiritual Cramp for a handful of dates in June. Fan poll: 5 best twenty one pilots songs of all time
Alternative Press Magazine
by Alternative Press Magazine

twenty one pilots are hardly recognizable from the scrappy, Columbus, Ohio-bred band that they started as. Over the course of six albums, they’ve ascended to packed arenas, pulling off extravagant theatrics that make them an epic live band. As the duo prepare to release Clancy, the final album within their painstakingly detailed, multi-album narrative that’s taken up the past few years, expectations are massively high. That led us to ask our readers to name the best twenty one pilots songs of all time, and they sounded off with tons of different answers, ranging from Regional At Best cuts to t ..read more

More Artist Friendly is on the way. Following conversations with Bea Miller, Reyna Roberts, and Dylan Schneider, Jake Duzsik of HEALTH will join Joel Madden on the latest episode of the series. Last year’s RAT WARS, their sixth studio album and one of their best, is loaded with menacing bite, noisy gloom, and crushing danceability that points to an apocalyptic future, balancing a bold, ambitious vision with despair. Now, the neo-industrial trio are taking that record out on the road, including an appearance at Download Festival and a date opening for Bring Me the Horizon in June. HEALTH also r ..read more
