The days and weeks are flying by and we are less than 2 months away from our move to 410 Gladstone. The move date, and any disruption in services, will be announced before the end of May. Given the circumstances under which we are working (you know – Pandemic, Lockdown, Supply Chain Interruptions, etc.) things are moving along quite well. We are at the finishing stage which means the space is starting to look beautiful. Paint finishes are going on, flooring is being laid and equipment is being installed. The big thrill of the last few weeks was the delivery and installation of the doors and w ..read more

As we approach the end of March and get a glimpse of spring weather, we are making great progress in our new location. This last week we have been framing up walls, applying drywall, finishing up the rough in of plumbing, electrical and HVAC, and planning the exterior. Avery has put together a video that will help you locate the new location in the context of the neighbourhood, as well as highlight the beautiful windows that will be providing tonnes of daylight to brighten the interior of our retail space and production kitchen. Production kitchens are often windowless spaces tucked into the b ..read more

It’s been a busy few weeks at the Construction Site of the New Red Apron and things are moving along nicely. The most exciting part of the progress has been the addition of new windows and doors, which are transforming the look of the space and showing us how bright and full of natural light our new workplace will be! The plumbing and electrical services have already been roughed in and this week the Construction Team at from Tikkun Construction will be starting to close in the walls and drop in the ceilings. By the middle of next week it will start to look like a finished space. On th ..read more

Welcome to the New Red Apron! We are excited to share with you our journey from 564 Gladstone to 410 Gladstone. We secured a lease on this space over a year ago and we chose it for a number of reasons. First, we wanted to stay as close to our current location as possible. Second, we wanted more parking for our customers. Mostly, we needed more space, and 410 Gladstone is double the amount of space we currently occupy. We knew this would be a long journey but we certainly were not factoring in a worldwide Pandemic when we started. To say it’s added layers of complexity, cost and delay, would be ..read more

Because of the overwhelming support from our community our business long ago outgrew our current location. After years of looking we believe we have found the perfect spot – which is just a few blocks away from our existing location. This Summer, the Red Apron will be relocating to 410 Gladstone. It’s not pretty now, but we are working hard on transforming this space into something wonderful. We are doubling the size of our production kitchen and retail space and in addition to on-street parking, our new location will have plenty of free customer parking. Follow our progress here and we will ..read more

The Red Apron is one of the fortunate few small businesss that are fully open Our industry has been hit incredibly hard by this pandemic, which is now in it’s 7th week of lockdown. The results of a recent Restaurants Canada survey are in, and the findings are deeply worrisome. One out of every two independent restaurants say they are worried they might not survive the next few months. The latest announcement about rent relief, although welcome by small business owners, has not been popular with all landlords. And truthfully, even paying only 25% of your rent is a hardship when your business ..read more

Cooking During Lockdown

One thing I have observed about this difficult time, is that those who are staying at home are turning to activities that we can’t normally find time to do, like cleaning, gardening, and cooking. My guess is that you will see many more people planting vegetable gardens this year and if you have tried to buy flour or other basic ingredients in the grocery stores, you will notice that the shelves are bare. Bread baking is becoming a national sport with people making their own sourdough breads and starters. You can order starters online from places like Almanac Grains, or try your hand at making ..read more
