Is technology at a point where I shouldn’t be worried about the number of AD/DA conversions anymore?

Hello friends, I've been a podcast editor for the past 2 years now and am now in need of finding my own replacement. Any tips for how to find and evaluate good podcast editing? Also what I should help prepare in advance going into the hiring process? It's my first time so any insights would be appreciated! submitted by /u/greenonion_2 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Thoughts on Tipping

Just got out of a session that cost my client $80 and they insisted on giving me a $20 tip. Not the first time this has happened, as I often have clients offer me tips after sessions, some as much as 50 percent. The reason it's weird is because I really don't need it. Of course I'm not gonna turn down free money, as I'm not a rich man, but it feels weird Everytime. What are your thoughts on receiving tips in the studio? submitted by /u/phantomface55 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How much noise goes through a wall?
Audio Engineering | Reddit

Greetings everyone, I live in a studio apartment in the middle of two other studios, and I'm interested to know how much noise goes through the walls. like when I talk on the phone or eat something crunchy. - Does the mobile phone recording simulate human ear hearing, or does it catch more sound? - Is there any software that can simulate how much sound could go through a standard red brick? Finally, any way to get a close estimation of how much sound could go through will be much appreciated. And I apologize if my questions sound dumb. submitted by /u/Jothour [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I know there are like pad synths and other stuff going on, but i am looking for possible approaches to getting my vocals and acoustic guitar sound like they would fit into how the album champion by bones sounds. Ideas for how to set up a vocal chain or acoustic guitar recording chain would be greatly appreciated! Does not have to be the full chain, just some key elements to include and how to use them would be cool too. Thank you! Hey all, I am a 24-year-old artist working as an audio engineer for money, and right now i feel severely undervalued. I started engineering in 2017 at 17 years old because i didn’t want to pay for studio time as an artist, and started offering studio time for free in my room. Eventually around a year later i went to, $15/hr, then to 20, and before i started working at a studio was up to $30/hr Now, I’ve been working as an audio engineer at a studio for 30-40/hr, but with a 50% split with the studio owner. At first the split was only until I prove my worth, then i would keep the entire hourly ..read more

Game changer. My drum gating is about to get a LOT better. If anyone else doesn't know... the hysteresis allows you to set a different threshold for the gate to close as opposed to the opening. i found it after i told my parents i wanted to study music production, its a 5.1 system and the center speaker buzzes uncontrollably, i can't really afford anything else at the moment, the room im using as my "Studio" isn't treated either, to my ears it sounds pretty good, the subwoofer is way too loud but im working on it submitted by /u/Kitchen-Bunch-5565 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Could there be any benefit to erecting broadband absorbers right next to one's speakers?

https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/vertical-acoustic-panels-right-next-to-speakers-in-near-field-setup-in-asymmetric-placement.48411/ gives the context of my room dimensions and speaker positioning constraints as well as my Genelec GLM measurements from the listening position. In short, it is an approximately 1:2 room with my desktop and Genelec 8341A pair situated in the middle of the right half facing the long wall. For midrange to treble frequencies, considering the speaker's directivity, wouldn't there be benefit in this asymmetric layout to erecting something like ..read more

I would really love some help, my great grandmas daughters want to hear her voice again, and I have a very quiet, somewhat muffled clip of her saying “I love you honey, take care” She just passed a week ago today, 5 months after my grandma’s husband died, so this would really help Dm me and I can share the file Thanks submitted by /u/JaydenC13 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
