This post is sponsored by Association of Learning. Toddlers could be argued to be ideal world travellers. With an insatiable curiosity, and the ability to make friends wherever they go, they’re like little sponges, soaking up everything around them and moulding their worldview on their experiences. We’re lucky to be able to raise our children in a more globalised world than ever before, with access to the internet and a limitless amount of childcare advice. But armed with this vast expanse of knowledge and your little sponge in tow, some questions remain: Which cultures raise the happiest ..read more

Breastfeeding is a personal choice that many new mothers face. It is a natural way to nourish and bond with your baby, but it also comes with its own set of pros and cons. My Precipitous Labour birth story

The times I have told the birth story, of my precipitous labour, after Nell was born in February, I often joked ‘well there’s not a lot to tell, it was all over so quickly. Truth is, the whole experience from start to finish will stick in my mind forever. I’ve always heard so much whilst growing up and recently, about long, drawn out labours. The kind that go on for days, with slow inductions, contractions slowing and the cervix taking ages to reach 10cm dilated. My first labour was fifteen hours so didn’t feel too shocked about the length of it… Nobody ever talks in depth about the fast lab ..read more

The scary, uncertain reality of remote working with a little one

Why do we all have this vision and ambition to have children and work from home to spend quality time with them? In reality, we are not spending any extra ‘quality time’ with them by being at home. We are sat at the laptop/ computer feeling stressed and guilty because we have a child who is always either hungry, thirsty, bored, or just wants your attention. Children of course don’t understand that you’re busy and being at home is something that not all families get to do. They don’t understand that if they just let you get on, you’d be done so much quicker and then they can your time all to ..read more

The pros and cons of Nursery

I have decided to write this blog about the pros and cons of nursery. I felt nursery to be an easy decision until we were looking for one. When my daughter started nursery there were things I noticed that are obvious now but, I would never have thought of at that time. These were more the negatives of nursery. I just kept thinking of all the positives of how much it would help her to interact with other children, especially as being born at the end of 2018, Covid locked us all down when she was about 18 months old. From 18 months children start to understand more and start learning to talk ..read more

My Positive Birth

I never really thought too much about Labour before I wanted to have a baby, I never allowed myself to watch programmes like one born every minute, as I knew I’d instantly be anxious and scared as hell of the pain. My pregnancy wasn’t too bad, I got the nausea in the beginning- which was what I was scared about most- My phobia of feeling or being sick made me more anxious about getting pregnant than anything else, but I coped and by the second trimester I was feeling good, enjoying food again and just taking in the whole experience openly and happily. At this point in the pregnancy, I had it ..read more

I think we’ve all been there during maternity leave – sitting there feeding our babies in the early hours wondering how on earth we are going to function on so little sleep when back at work. As maternity leave progresses, chats over coffee after baby groups turn from teething and weaning to KIT days, going part time vs staying full time or not wanting to go back at all, childcare options and the sheer cost of it! What to do about work after having a baby is such a personal choice but having spoken to so many mums about it over the years, it feels like one that is so often influenced by ..read more

I want to talk a little bit about retained placenta. Before I developed this post-birth complication myself I never even knew it could happen. So in the following paragraphs I’ll tell you a bit about what retained placenta is and my personal experience with it. Even though it’s an issue which is relatively rare, some women do experience it. Therefore it’s my goal to raise awareness about this complication so that women may recognise if it’s something they’re enduring themselves or help understand other women who do. What is Retained Placenta? Following the birth of a baby you move into ..read more
