Spotted Sea Trout Our trout fishing on the flats in 6-10′ of water has really turned on in recent weeks. Mirrolure lil Jon’s, 3″ gulp shrimp, and live shrimp on 1/8th oz jig heads have all been getting it done. Our stellar lite 7’6” Star Rods and Daiwa saltist 2500 reels have made a great combination for light tackle trout fishing. If you’re looking for meat in the cooler they’re a great fish to target and they can create some steady action while the tides change for redfishing. There are really good numbers of slot sized fish coming in right now. The mackerel have been cutting us off ..read more

Speices #1: Sheepshead There’s only about 3 more weeks of fishing for sheepshead left in 2021. The bite has been very good in the 10-40′ of water. Don’t be shy to bounce from rock to rock until you find them chewing. Bring plenty of live shimp as there’s lots of bycatch out there right now. (grouper, grunts, porgies) Knocker rigs with a 2/0 j hook, 30# leader, and a 3/4oz egg sinker is our go to sheepshead rig. Get out there and get them while you can! Speices #2: Spotted Seatrout  Our trout bite the past few weeks has improved greatly. The spring like temps pushed th ..read more

Nice Weather  It’s been a rough past few weeks weather wise with freezing temps and strong winds. But it looks like that pattern has finally broken and we’ve got nice conditions ahead! Sheepshead have been chewing on the nearshore rock piles lately. We’re even starting to see some quality fish near the 10 pound mark. For these guys we’re in 10-25′ dropping down live shrimp on knocker rigs. Mangrove snapper and pink mouth grunts usually come as bycatch doing this type of fishing. Closer to shore the redfish bite has been productive at high tide. Pitching live shrimp on a jig head f ..read more

Nearshore Sheepshead season is upon us. Now through the end of march these guys school up on our nearshore rockpiles to spawn. It can definitely be fun fishing when they’re chewing! Live shrimp on a knocker rig is our normal go to rig. Small J hooks are a must as they can be tricky to hook at times. While fishing these rocks we also get pink mouth grunts, mangrove snapper and gag grouper. Grouper are out of season but getting them on light tackle is a challenge fro any angler! Inshore Water temps got down in the low 50’s for a week or better. This pushed most of our fish in the ..read more

Gag Grouper Grouper season is nearing it’s end but we’ve been getting some good ones. With water temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico as cold as they are now we’ll change from primarily trolling to bottom fishing. Clients are more apt to breaking off and losing fish like this but grouper can tone down the aggression when it cools down. Primarily baits will be thread fin herring, sardines, and live pinfish. 20-30′ has been the most productive. These same rocks we grouper fish on will hold sheepshead in just a few weeks! When they do we’ll switch to light tackle and live shrimp. That’s fun fishi ..read more

Grouper Our good grouper bite continues despite the wind/waves lately.  Trolling and bottom fishing in 12-30′ of water has been very productive. The average size of our fish this week has skyrocketed. A lot of shallow water gags out there right now in the 30″ range. Big lipped plugs such as the Rapala Magnum X-Rap 20’s and the Magnum Husky 25’s have been our go to trolling baits. Looks like threre’s decent weather the next few days so get out there while you can! Spotted Sea Trout With really low tides recently we’ve focused on spotted sea trout quite a bit insho ..read more

Grouper Water temps have dropped and the gag grouper have moved into the shallows in good numbers. When it’s calm enough lately we’ve been shooting out and playing tug of war with these guys. Our preferred method is trolling but bottom fishing can be very productive as well. Go to grouper trolling plugs are rapala xrap magnum 20’s. Be sure to take quite a few as king and spanish mackerel have been hitting them lately cutting plugs off. We’re fishing these from 8-30′ over natural ledges and rocks. Spotted Sea Trout Recent cold fronts have stacked the keeper sized trout up in g ..read more

Redfish Quality reds are coming in just about every trip right now. Majority of them have been slot sized (18-27″) as a lot of our spawning fish have already pushed out to deeper waters. Lately timing of the tide has been everything. Outoging tides have been rather mediocre and incoming tides have been very good. Go to baits have been cut and live pinfish either freelined or on a knocker rig. If you don’t catch one in 10 minutes it’s time to move on.  Grouper We don’t do specific grouper charters but we’ve been sneaking out here and there on calm days to t ..read more

Redfish Our great redfish run as of late continues. Just about every trip we’ve landed good numbers of reds. Some days even breaking the 50 fish mark. Majority of these fish have been slot size with a few over slots mixed in. Pinfish, live shrimp, cut pinfish and ladyfish have been getting the bite lately. “Baiting and waiting” is a very productive technique we use to catch these guys. Our normal bait and wait rig is a knocker rig consisting of a 3/4 oz lead, a 4/0 VMC circle hook, and 25# fluorocarbon leader. We’ll stake up on a productive looking area (mullet, moving water, and structure ..read more

Redfish Redfish, redfish, and more redfish. They’ve been absolutely chewing the past few weeks! Live pinfish, shrimp, and cut bait have all been getting hit. Most have been in the 18-27″ slot limit but we’re beginning to see some of 30-35″ big girls around. This time of year they school up so when you hook up to one have someone else on the boat cast right on top of the hooked fish. Odds are very good you’ll get a second one on! If you’re new to the area or you’re struggling to locate a school of reds a good method is to cover ground with a “search bait.” Starting in productive looking areas ..read more
