Recently I returned back to the Puredux development and released a 1.2 update.
While many libraries start as a single package and then become an umbrella and get split, Puredux does the opposite.
I've migrated all the packages into a mono repo and here is why.
The Story
Initially, Puredux was born a few years ago out of an existing SwiftUI project. It was an implementation of a Redux-like store with SwiftUI bindings.
When I moved on to another UIKit project I missed it terribly. So decided that it would be a nice idea to implement Puredux bindings for UIKit as well.
First of all, it's a goo ..read more

While my 2022 was a huge spike in the life volatility, 2023 was a damping oscillator. The dust has settled and things started to get back to an upward trajectory.
2023 was definitely a year of reunion. I've finally got my residence permit in Portugal after long months of waiting. Now I'm able to travel again and meet with family.
In 2023 I probably met more old friends and mates than in the last few years. My university friends, former colleagues, and even classmates. Oh wait. I've even met with my nephew after we haven't seen each other for more than 20 years.
Now I'm seriously thinking abou ..read more

Web Summit started as a local tech event in Dublin in 2009 and its growth as an annual event was insane:
400 attendees in 2010
4000 in 2012
More than 10000 in 2013
More than 42000 people in 2015
It has been held in Lisbon since 2016 gathering more than 70 000 people every year.
It's literally a Bitcoin in the world of offline tech events. Perhaps the most massive tech event in the world that attracted the top tier managers of the top tier companies, politicians of the highest rank like presidents and prime ministers and even retired pro skaters took part in Web Summit as speakers.

How wrong I was when I thought that the bottom of Instagram was users' daily food allowance showcase. Then it turned into a social lie platform about real life.
I thought it couldn't be worse and was wrong again. It turned into a selling point for second-grade coaches in uninvented areas. That made me run out of patience and I stopped using it.
On Twitter, I got into a weird social bubble. I gave in trying to mute topics and my Twitter feed is a shitstorm of all kinds. It's so bad that I made a second account just to be able to get caught on a dopamine hook of those "You are doing it wrong" A ..read more

Here is a list of known ZFS downsides that didn't stop me from using ZFS on my homelab.
It's memory-hungry. From what I've read it's not recommended to have less than 8GB of RAM with ZFS. In my case, it consumes about 6GB of RAM under load, like making a time machine backup.
There are limitations to how you can extend your ZFS pool. Long story short: ZFS is not very suitable for growing the storage gradually. If you have some kind of an established ZFS RAID, you cannot simply buy a new drive and increase capacity. Currently, folks are working on a solution to make ZFS pool expendable. There i ..read more

I've never been delusional about relocation.
At least I've tried not to.
I've been working remotely for the last ~7 years. There are only a few things that change if I move to another country: the cost of living, taxes, expenses, decoration around me, and the distance between me and my mates and family.
I've always believed that the quality of life depends on what I was doing, and how much I earn and spend. It dramatically lowers the importance of a big number of other things including the place where I reside.
That's why it has always seemed legit to evaluate the quality of life by only comp ..read more

Mini PC
There is an endless list of mini PCs on Amazon to choose from.
At first, I was considering fanless options because they are silent and cool (hot, actually).
The weird thing is that even Raspberry PI is usually used with a small fan because it goes wildly hot sometimes. I didn't want to overheat the SSD or make a fire, so I decided to have a fan.
I purchased it a couple of months ago and now there are a lot more options with the next-gen Intel's N5105 for the Raspberry Pi price, which should be even more efficient than the one that I picked.
Storage
For diversity reasons, it's advised ..read more

I've finally built my portable home lab to streamline the way I deal with my media data storage, backups, archives, etc.
Why is that important? That's why.
Now I can hardly hold back my excitement about it.
My Homelab Use Case
I don't need a 24/7 running server. I need a thing that would run on schedule and serve my needs for file storage and backups:
Media files like photos, footage, etc.
MacOS Photos app library
Time machine backups
iPhone backups storage
"Useful" files archived from old laptops
I need multiuser support to be able to separate storages for family members and also so ..read more

Every single time I traveled with my laptop I was pissed off because of this.
Losing the laptop is a disaster. Game over. All would be lost because I keep everything there: documents, 10+ years of work, photos, accounts, passwords, etc.
It felt especially critical during my relocation adventures. If I lost my laptop at any point in my journey, the only thing I could do is to buy a ticket and fly back home.
Believe In Yourself! Losing a Laptop Is Possible!
It may seem that losing a laptop is hard. IRL it's not a biggie.
First of all, a laptop can break down hard. If it has an embedded SSD like ..read more
