2020 The year of the PEIMQG's 5th anniversary and COVID-19 When thinking of the theme for the President's Block Challenge, these were the things that rose to the surface.  Fifteen members rose to the challenge and submitted 17 blocks.  You can read about it in this post. Thank you for the 145 people who cast their vote for the favourite block.  It was the first time in our history of doing the President's Block Challenge that there was a tie for first place with 21 votes each and the third place winner garnered 18 votes. The President made ribbons and bundled the winning ..read more

Help us choose the viewer's choice winner! Fifteen members accepted the 2020 President's challenge, using the Kona and Pantone Colours of the Year (COTY) - Enchanted and Classic Blue and Fibonacci sequence.  The brief: Leonardo Pisano Fibonacci (1170–1240 or 1250) was an Italian number theorist. He introduced the world to such wide-ranging mathematical concepts as what is now known as the Arabic numbering system, the concept of square roots, number sequencing, and even math word problems. The Fibonacci sequence is a series of numbers where a number is the addition of the last two num ..read more

Last Saturday, members of the PEIMQG had the opportunity to attend a workshop with Lisa from the Messy Crow (@messycrowpei) at the east end of the Island in the barn of a century farm.  They were joined by some members of the Red Clay Quilt Guild located in Souris. These quilters picked up a different type of needle to learn to make a felted work of art which was framed at the end of the workshop.  Here are some photos of the works in progress and the group shot at the end of the workshop. After a delicious lunch, everyone went home with their artwo ..read more

Here on the island, the temperatures are cooling off and it seems like summer is coming to an end with some hints of leaf colour changes to signal the onset of fall.  We continue to be extremely thankful with the small number (less than 5) active cases of COVID-19 and with our public health guidelines, we can gather safely in small numbers.  So we had our first in person meeting since March 2020, hosted by one of our members in her long-arm studio and recreation space.  What a wonderful experience to be together again.  Eighteen of our members were able to come to our meeti ..read more

Well, our retreat was postponed from March to July and we were fortunate to be able to go on retreat with the easing of public health measures and the opening of the Atlantic Bubble where the four Maritime provinces were able to move freely without having to self-isolate upon arrival. Fifteen keen quilters were gung-ho to go on retreat from late Thursday afternoon until Sunday after lunch... Here is the view from the room with physical distancing in place!  We were fortunate to have a Canadian company, Soak Wash provide Flatter for all and Soak for the folks on retreat.  Such ..read more

Another beautiful day on the island for our June meeting and we are moving into Phase IV of easing public health restrictions with the highly anticipated Atlantic Canada bubble on July 3rd.  Many of us have friends and family that we are looking forward to visiting or having them visit the Island. Thirteen of our members popped into our zoom meeting this past Thursday night.  We really appreciate the advantages of the MQG membership allowing us to remain connected while physically distancing.  We have learned that our normal meeting space will not be available to us in the futu ..read more

Hello it's Velda, from the Prince Edward Island Modern Quilt Guild (PEIMQG). Today I'm sharing the story about our 2020 QuiltCon Quilt.  Thank you Heather for asking me to do this. Because I'm not sure how well some of our followers know us, let me begin by saying we are a small but busy bunch of quilters located in PEI Canada.  This was our 3rd QuiltCon Charity Quilt entry; and we are beyond proud of every one of them. The MQG through its QuiltCon 2020's website invited member guilds to piece a quilt using a "Greyscale" colour way.  Specifically they suggested quilt ..read more
