Photographer Jacob Hall was in coastal Texas when he snapped images of a great blue heron flying from the edge of the water at Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge. It wasn’t until after he took the photos that he realized what had just happened. A bobcat, which had been hiding in the bushes by the shore had leaped wildly onto the heron, taking it down with it into the water. See more of Hall’s work on Instagram. Via PetaPixel: Images © Copyright Jacob Hall.  Here we see the heron taking off, unsuspecting. The same photo showing the bobcat hidden on the edge of the shore. The second image s ..read more

Hut Lounge Bed Looks Like the Perfect Summertime Retreat

The Hut by Ethimo looks like an amazing outdoor lounger to casually spend a weekend afternoon in. With a design that feels a bit like a childhood fort, the Hut cocoons its user in a wooden form, atop soft cushions, and the open air above you. With a curtain that pulls closed, it can provide full privacy, or an open lounger for poolside, or even in the woods. Grouped together, the lounger feels like a true destination for relaxation. “The Hut lounge bed can be customised with an elegant curtain that ‘closes’ this nest, allowing the air to filter through while protecting from direct sunlight. What Would Earth Taste Like as a Candy?
Moss and Fog

If Earth was distilled down to its essence, what would it taste like? It’s an unusual question, but also a fascinating thought experiment. Considering our planet is 70% covered by oceans, there’s a good chance the overall taste is going to be salty. Creating a bluish, salt flavored candy, Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa embodies our planet in a single, edible moment. More of an art piece than an actual product, the candy nonetheless is a disarming and unexpected creation. Via Whod Design: “About 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered by oceans. If you could shrink the Earth down and put it in ..read more

Coachella for years has had a playful and art-filled experience, and this year’s is no different. LA-based Do Lab created huge fabric ‘mushrooms’ for this year’s event, and they added a flowy, vibrant feel to the areas around one of the main stages. The large-scale installations sprouted from the ground to spread out into a canopy-like shape, providing color and shade to concert goers. The structures feel much more engaging and enlivening than a traditional tent would, and the wind flowing through them provided a sense of motion and movement that felt alive. Italian painter Marco Grassi paints with such remarkable detail, it’s literally down to the individual skin pore and facial hair. Some of them are so realistic it’s amazing they’re not photographs. The hyperrealistic paintings do delve into the surrealistic, breaking the illusion that they’re purely photographic in nature. We see figures whose arms and legs erupt in colorful murals and animal figures. Images © Copyright Marco Grassi.  “My goal is to stir deep emotions, trying to make people more sensitive. I want to combine reality and surrealism, exploring human thoughts and nature in a ..read more

The Pale Blue Dot, Our One and Only Home

After exploring the outer solar system, Carl Sagan asked NASA to have the Voyager 1 spacecraft turn its camera around and take an image of earth. It did so, at a distance of 3.7 billion miles (6 billion kilometers) from the Sun. The February 14, 1990 image was dubbed “The Pale Blue Dot“. That’s all you could see in the vastness of space. One tiny pixel of light. But within that one pixel, that one dot, was literally all that we know, and all that we have. It’s profound to think about the seemingly huge earth absolutely dwarfed by the enormity of space. For us, it’s a clear wake up call, to pro ..read more

Claire Droppert uses her native Dutch landscapes to create fascinating visions of nature, in new and unexpected ways. Her series ‘Dutch Rebels’ explores flowers that aren’t afraid to stand out from the field. Showing a range of beautiful fields, she captures a single, solitary bloom that sticks out, contrasted against the other flowers. We love the titles assigned to each image.
